Choose one:

- Everyone on the planet gets at least a 'minimum' standard of living [Which I will define as a decent house, and top notch hospital care, police and education. Pretty much your average first world citizen].

OR

- We use supreme technology. Apart from the poor. Who stay really poor. And without flying cars as all the rich kids have them...

So, pit, which world do YOU want to live in?

I don't believe that the first will occur, so I'd rather live in a non-fantasy land.
#6
I picked the first option. What with being an evil socialist and all.

#8
I think that a class system would develop again anyway. People who live the life you describe would still be described as poor.

Who the hell picked Fallout? Lol.

I picked 1...most of us already live in 2, basically, and I think we can all see that it's not so good.
Nope, no sig here.

Just so you know, the technology is so advanced you can do anything [apart from the help the poor, otherwise tech would in].
You can sculpture planets, clone yourself an army, visit Uranus...

Average first world citizen is a pretty sweet way to live.

I have my guitar and my passion. I don't need a flying Delorian.

With supreme technology I imagine we could research a cure for the poor?

We already have it. It's called 'fire'.

As awesome as it would be, everybody having an equal way of life would cause huge drops in the economy, lack of people doing "shitty" jobs and huge global overpopulation wouldn't it?
There's a special sex move I do called the Charizard.
It's where you light the girls pubes, then put it out with your cum and run around the room flapping your arms screaming, "You don't have enough badges to train me!"

I am a strong believer in living a very rich and technologically advanced life as long as we grind up the poor to use for fuel so I don't feel bad about them being so poor and all

That's the catch. For some reason, you can't help the poor... them cars won't pay for themselves, after all.

No silly! Socialist states are the best because everyone is magically not greedy and will be ok with having the same as everyone else! No one would ever try to advance their place in society, and everyone would just share!

Time to take things literally...

I don't see what the advantage of a flying car is, anyway. Well, a truly flying one, yes, but one of those hovercrafts that you often see in futuristic fiction, WTF is the point? They still only travel along set pathways, much like a car does down a road now. They don't have complete freedom of motion in 3 dimensions. There is still plenty of traffic. The only advantage is not having to change tires in the winter, but even then it's better to have tires to have a grip on the road. A hovercraft would slide around everywhere.

What a shitty concept. Seriously. Wheels FTW.

Happier than Americans.

The proof is in the comparative suicide rates and percentage of the population taking antidepressants.

Seriously, tech is so advanced these things drive like love on a cake.

Also, in hindsight, it does look like a Socialist V Capitalist question, but I can clearly state that was NOT my intention.
Just imagine the modern world right now, but add one of the two options...

Love, you say? On a cake?

I'm sold.

EDIT: Hey, wait! Choosing option 2 does not guarantee me a place among the flying car elite! I choose the more communist option.

CHINA IS NOT A COMMUNIST COUNTRY!

I mean for prete's sake they have a bleeding state. Communist territories aren't supposed to have states let alone a class system and a beuracratic class thats replaced the capitalists.

Isn't communism simply where the means of production belongs to the government, not the citizens? And socialism is where the means of production are the property of the workers?

and to mistressIbanez: The prevalence of mental health issues doesn't really have much to do with general wellbeing. Americans are generally spoiled bastards, but at least we have some semblance of free speech and religious freedom. Capital punishment is also a lot less prevalent here than in China, and Americans can have as many kids as they want (for better or for worse). Americans have it pretty good; it's too bad far too many of us are bigoted retards that don't realize it.

Just my two cents.

EDIT: Shit I had communism and socialism backwards lol...
EDIT2: Shit does UG not censor "shit" any more?

It has to do with mental wellbeing. All the rest is just money.

Wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong.

Socialism is where the means of production are the property of the workers yes. Communism is the same but it has a few more requirements.

First of all there are no classes, communism is the end of class antagonisms. Since for Marx the state is an instrument of class oppression the end of class antagonisms means the end of the state. Let me repeat that for you. In communism there can be no state/government. Communism is based economically on the principle of gift economies like those in primitive societies and on the principle 'From each according to his ability to each according to his need' as well. The everyone getting paid the same thing is just cold war era propaganda.

And the USSR and china were never communist, nor even socialist. I can explain why or link you to articles explaining why if you want. But FYI they were/are state-capitalist.

I really wanna know why. I'm interested in having a respectful discussion on this, because I'll be the first to admit that I am not very well versed in terms of political and economic theories. But these cryptic, one line answers don't really lend themselves to this kind of discourse. What exactly do you mean?

Free speech is only useful in the presence of an equal footing/platform to be free to say things on. In america however you only have corporate controlled media with a couple of independent outlets that nonetheless tend toward favouring the cultural hegemony.
