At the moment I'm using an M-Audio interface and an instrument mic but my bass tone isn't turning out as well as I'd like compared to my guitar tone. I've tried going straight into the interface (Acoustic B200 has a mic input) but still didn't get the tone I'd like. I've considered asking for a bass POD for Christmas, would this improve my recordings? If there's something better I'd like a suggestion.

Why would you spend tens of thousands of dollars to learn about a language you already speak? It was over before it even started dude

If you are using a microphone on your bass amp's cabinet, lose the instrument mic and use a good bass kick drum microphone. You should hear an improvement.

Hmm. Maybe I'll pick one up when I can. Are there any cheap ones that aren't too bad?

I don't know about that microphone. They don't list any frequency specs.. Try this one instead...it is about the same price:

This one is going to be at least as good; maybe better:

Bass kick drum mics just seem to work better for micing bass cabinets; particularly for recording purposes. I've met studio engineers who would be hard pressed to use anything else for the job (but they use more expensive mics because they don't have to pay for them).

I would consider the AKG since it mentioned wind instruments. I know my current mic (Sure SM57) sounds a little weak when recording saxophone, think the AKG would work any better?
