I'm incorporating Eric Johnson bounce technique to my playing because I find I get a lot of pick noise (ie pick hitting the string while its vibrating) and I want it to stop. I understand how it works, and my main question is how far away from the string should I be vertically, as in how much bounce? Thanks

A tiny amount really; if you watch EJ himself do it there's really a tiny amount of movement when he does it because if you move too far you'll never be able to get up to his kind of speeds.
