Then what other bands might I like? I love the unconventional instruments and all the different influences they use. I love the melancholic feel to the songs, and also the happy parts. Everything they do is awesome, and I want to know if there are any other bands that have traits in common with them? If it helps, they're my favorite, second only to the Beatles.
The Dear Hunter, especially their Act III album
The Receiving End of Sirens, their Between The Heart And The Synapse album

I dunno if you'll like em, but still check em out :]
Try Neutral Milk Hotel. Lo-fi stuff, not extremely similar, but both are a bit folk-y and use "unconventional instruments." And the vocals sound similar. Give it a try

Plus, everyone should listen to Neutral Milk Hotel's "In the Aeroplane Over the Sea"

I agree with The Dear Hunter's Act III

Unconventional instruments?
Not for a folk band...

If they were playing death metal with an upright bass and a mandolin, then I'd understand.
