theyre pretty much the same except a closed coil has a cover on it which makes it sound thicker and less trebly.

Closed cover's have a thicker sound and are less trebly, both in good ways, unless you want a shredder, 80s, or any modern metal type sound. Otherwise, I would rather have closed, but in my opinion open looks better. And because the sound difference is minimal, I choose to go with looks over minimal, very minimal, sound quality.
