Looks genuine, but see if you can find someone who knows more about Gibsons than I do. My 1 way to tell just passed, but it's fairly easy to fake. Hey, I've seen someone selling a Parker for $350. My advice is to check it out, see how it plays, and if it seems fine, get it.

Because that's not a $2500 guitar. That's more of a $1000 guitar. That's a low end model
There's something living in these lines.

Do they normally go this cheap used? Am I right in thinking that this was new at around $2500?

No, it would've been around $1000-1300 new. $500 sounds like a decent price.

This guitar cost $1,000 new. It's a SPECIAL. Special = cheaper.

That's reasonable. Remember, it's not a standard. It's a Special, the second cheapest type of LP (cheapest is the junior). They go for around $1000 new.

You CAN play anything with anything....but some guitars sound right for some things, and not for others. Single coils sound retarded for metal, though those who are apeshit about harpsichord probably beg to differ.

looks legit. price is about right. definitely was nevr a $2500 guitar, I have no clue where you got the idea that it was.

that being said, les paul specials are sweet, very unique sound, if I had $500 laying around I'd buy it.
