B-52 AT 112 combo - $275 (you could have this for less than that Cab you bought)

I Think you should get this. I havent had much experience with it myself, but there seems to be a lot of praise for these amps on this board.

Why do you say you need a halfstack because you're gigging?

The B-52 does seem a very good amp for the price and is praised by the guys that have used them.

The 1960 cabs aren't that great, especially for metal. You'd be better off with a Vader 2x12.

Cheap metal heads:

- Peavey VTM
- Peavey XXX
- Peavey Ultra Plus
- Crate GT 3500H Shockwave (solid state)
- Ampeg VH140c (solid state)
- Red Bear Amps MK60
- Sovtek MIG
- Peavey Butcher

Keep in mind, the solid state options there are just as solid (no pun intended) as any other I listed above.

Neither are as good as the B-53 metioned above. Honestly, I doubt you'll beat that.

This is also worth a look, although in your price range I'd be focusing mostly on combos (you could easily snag a nice Boogie for $500-$600). You don't need a halfstack for gigging, etc etc

I think the Valveking, with mods, is a great metal head. Swap the transformer and tubes (with the head version) and you should be good.

The Vypyr Tube head also isn't out, so I don't really see how one can comment on that.
The Ampeg VH140c is an ideal metal head, too, particularly for death metal and other extreme genres. Don't discount it just because it's solid state. Same for the Crate GT3500H.

What about the randall g3 series? They seem to be pretty cheap. Are they any good?
And bugera?

they're not going to touch that B52 for the price, end of story. the G3 is a decent amp, but TBH, it's Randalls MG.

Hmm alright. I guess i will just look around for a decent used head. Possibly a valve king and i'll just get a distortion pedal with it.

Pretty much everything I was about to post.

In your price range a Vader 2x12 is your best bet. They sound pretty much amazing with any head, especially for metal tones.

You can get 6505/6505+'s in the $500-$700 range. Go for the +, it has better cleans.
