today on my quest to finding an affordable hollowbody/jazz box i came across a guitar research eddie durham model hollowbody. at first i didnt pay any attention to it just because it was the guitar research brand that i thought just made crappy practice amps.

after trying a couple ibby's in the 500 pricerange i figured it wouldnt hurt to try the guitar research model especially for only 300. needless to say, i found it very similar quality wise (the ibanez just slightly better) but in no way was it a 250 dollar difference, the only thing the ibanez had better was the pickups (and not by much either) so i put it on layaway and i figured i would do some more research on this brand before buying. unfortunately all i've found out is that guitar research is owned by sam ash (thus why the price is much lower)

can anyone give me a little insight here, or just tell me if i should spring for 550 dollar guitar

well, if the only thing you found that was worse on the research brand was the pick ups, you can easily replace those for some better ones with the extra money you'll be saving after you get this cheaper guitar that you liked the feel of equally as the more expensive guitar

you're not gonna want to take a dump in a gross, off-colored, vintage toilet. you want something that is white and pearly; something that shines. something that you can put your cheeks against and say, "f*** yeah"

this is what i was planning to do. it was just a great deal 300 for the hollowbody and hardshell case vs an equally good guitar for 550 w/o case. i could find used humbuckers for it for like 50-60 bucks. what would be some good ones for a hollowbody playing jazz blues and funk?

other guitars off the top of my head are the epiphone casino and ibanez hollows. but for $300 with a hard case, you can buy some nice a better pickups and still save more money than if you bought the ibanez
