Hello and welcome!
Personally I've had no experience with Deans, but i have heard only bad things about low end Deans

i think if you can go over 200 you might be able to get something better
you can get a vypyr 15w for 100$

Honestly, you are better off saving a little more up because the low end guitars tend to be junk in quality. Would a beginner want a Junk guitar or something decent?

begginer amps usually suck a lot
the distortion is no good and the cleans are mediocre,
the guitars usually dont have the best pickups or electronics, and you can usually get something better for the price

also ebay is a great place to look for some used or even new stuff
if youre willing to go used of course which will save you cash but you wont be able to try out the instrument

the only thing i can think about in that budget is looking at some squires
they're not that bad
or you could take a chance with agile low end guitars from rondomusic.com
but since your beggining i suggest you try something out first

and the vypyr amp i think is your best bet, specially if you can find it on ebay so you don't pay shipping or taxes

could you guys suggest more stuff that would keep it under 200-225?

What kind of music will you be playing?

If it were me I'd get an SX strat and a 15w Vypyr. I love my SX. Awesome neck.

Looking at the used section of your local guitar center would be agreat place to start. Starting out, try to get the best playing guitar. Dont half it with guitar and amp. Buy the best quality guitar you can find for 150 or so. And then spend 50 for some beat up pos amp that happens to be there. Trust me, you ll want to play more if its fun to play, a shitty guitar just pisses you off.

The fretboard is dry because it is more than likely made in China.

I wonder how he came to this conclusion.
