I was looking into getting the ESP ec-401 and found the Michael Kelly Patriot. Similar guitars just wondering if anybody has insight on either of them.

Also, if I can get the cash would the ec-1000 be that much better than the ec-401? Looks mostly cosmetic to me but I don't know.

depends on what you r looking for the patriot is emg 81/85 and the ec is 81/60. i have the ec-1000 and the 81/60 is great. the 60 sounds real good with cleans. i'm not so sure about the 85 and how well it does cleans. i've never used the 85 yet.

ADDED: i also like esp-ltd and playing them. i think the ec looks better too.

the only real difference of the 1000 over the 401 is higher wood quality. That's about it. I'd get the ESP 401 over the MK, i've never played a michael kelly, but i know that the ESP's quality is great.

GUITARS CURRENTLY USED
Ibanez RG7621
Ibanez RG121
ESP LTD H-400

Ya the esp seems really solid to me, just making sure I check all my options . So the ec-1000 really isn't all that much better?

the 401 and 1000 aren't too much different. i was gonna get a 401, but i had enough money for a 1000 and i fell in love with the vintage black finish

i got an ec-1000 with a FR. I've never had a problem with any esp i've ever owned. i think the 1000 has better tuners and a better bridge. if your strapped for cash you shouldn't have any problems with the 401
