Well when you look at a decent sized thread itll have say 50 posts and when you look at the views, theres like 500. ratioed as 10:1, so i ask you is lurking an acceptable practice? i do not lurk much, what about you? this excludes when you were new cuz we all lurked.

People don't always feel they have to voice there opinion.

EDIT: Anyone who uses the words unacceptable practice to describe it is an idiot and should be treated as such.

I read lots of threads, but don't post in every single one of them.

Not much, because I feel a need to post my opinion everywhere, whether or not it's welcome.

Also I find myself coming back to threads a lot to see if anyone's replied to my attempted wit or 5-minute photoshoop effort, so I can bask in my little moment of glory that I amused a stranger over the internet.

I'm sure that's true for a lot of people, except they won't admit it. UNTIL NOW

Does views include page loads?

You might post then refresh a few times to see if anyone else posts, therefore "views" would be artificially inflated.
#18
Why wouldn't it be? It's better than all of those 500 viewers posting extremely pointless things. I personally view a thread that interests me multiple times to read what others have added, and perhaps the count includes those who aren't registered.
#19
All the time. If the title sounds interesting, but the thread isn't. If someone's already said exactly what I think. When I don't have an opinion, but am interested in the topic. When someone asks a question which I am also interested in the answer to, but I can't answer myself.

It would be a bit pointless for me to post in those situations, as it would simply clutter up the thread, and waste time for me and others. Does anyone really think that's a bad thing?

Well sometimes a thread is interesting and I don't have anything to add. It is kind of weird when a thread has hundreds of views and only 5 posts though.

Spending most of my time in the instrument forums, there are more threads where I go to learn rather than teach, so posting there would be pretty stupid. Also, posting requires me to continue to monitor the thread to see if I can improve or modify my statement for clarity or whatever. Many discussion are just not that interesting to me to be worth that.

Also, this page has a 10.5:1 view:post ratio. Irony much.
