Since the pit is full of highly clever individuals, could anyone help me? Tomorrow I have to teach a younger teenage class, any lesson, as long as it isn't something "Controversial". Their teacher says that opinions cannot be imposed. Can the Pit lend me lesson ideas?

Teach them how to use the English language, assuming you yourself know how. It's the single most neglected academic area in existence.
Do you feel warm within your cage?

They have very short attention spans, so it has to be something interesting to them. Oh I certainly agree with how neglected the subject of English language is. People use horrendous language, the teachers actually give us the answer keys. The school system is way to easy to pass.

Id teach them about something cool, like the history of metal or something. Or you could do aliens, ufo's, or bigfoot.
Or, teach them spanish, In my school no one understands how to use it in the class, and they dont even understand hola, it gets old. I grew up in an area where I had to know spanish.

Oh yeah! Is that the condition Franz Liszt had? They associate words, or numbers with colors, or emotions? Or is that something totally different? Seems to be happening a lot lately.

Well is you don't want controversial then you want to steer clear of politics and religion in any form or fashion. I would recommend doing something informative rather than persuasive. A good topic would the history of ___, or or how to___. What you put in the blank is up to you, s long as you steer clear of religion and politics you should be fine. Kinda late to start preparing for this isn't it? Good luck.

They won't let me teach on communism, why capitalism is not a good thing, and drug legalization, even though the teacher is a complete stoner. Would a class debate be okay? It would require less work, which seems to be the behavior of most teachers nowadays...

Tell your teacher that he is imposing his opinions on you, by telling you that you can not express your opinions with them.

Your teacher will have a dumbass/angry/dumbfounded look on his face. Proceed to teach a lesson of your choosing.

Does anyone have suggestions on a Cracked article to take different lessons from? They seem quite relevant to the people I have to teach.

What would be good topics to debate?

Because it exploits workers. Durr.

I should have phrased that differently, as in the pros and cons. Mainly the cons.

Why is capitalizing on the poor by paying them too little to survive or progress so that you the business owner can increase the gap between you and your employees a good thing? Capitalism brings a separation of the classes, a separation of the people and an uncaring attitude toward your fellow human. Capitalism has really f*cked this area of my state.

. . .I would hate it if you were being sarcastic. Anyway, if you're serious, all it does for workers is give them their own chance to succeed, unlike socialism/communism where everyone has their own position as a failure.

The only time capitalism doesn't work is for people who expect people to hold their hand through everything they do in life. Yes, it's possible for capitalism to not work for a hard working honest individual. But it doesn't put everybody on the same level, which eventually be that of a paid non worker. Capitalism allows (almost always) those who try to succeed, and those who don't are out of luck. Forcibly distributing jobs and money isn't promoting a caring attitude towards fellow humans, it forces you to be unable to succeed, and takes your money regardless of your attitude towards less fortunate people.

I'm not.

Not at all. Maybe, in a perfect world, where everyone was equal, but not in this world. In this world, only people who get lucky or are born into it succeed. Where did you hear everyone fails in socialism or communism? Your parents? Teachers? The media?

EDDIT: Maybe I missed something, but you're 17. . .

18, and have been for a little over 7 months. You just turned 16 yesterday. Your point?

The only time capitalism doesn't work is for people who expect people to hold their hand through everything they do in life.

No, it doesn't work for anyone but rich people or people who get lucky and become rich.

Yes, it's possible for capitalism to not work for a hard working honest individual.

Happens all the time.

But it doesn't put everybody on the same level, which eventually be that of a paid non worker.

Wait, what? Is that what you think socialism is? Everyone leeches off welfare?

Capitalism allows (almost always) those who try to succeed, and those who don't are out of luck.

So, you're basically saying that if you don't get lucky and succeed, you're fucked? Wow, that's a wonderful point of view.

Forcibly distributing jobs and money isn't promoting a caring attitude towards fellow humans, it forces you to be unable to succeed, and takes your money regardless of your attitude towards less fortunate people.

You see, this is why anarchy would be the best form of government.

For your class, tell them life sucks then you die. Then give a bunch of examples and then play heads up seven up. Then at the end, tell the kids that you taught them a valuable life lesson and to tell them to tell their teacher that you reviewed stuff that they knew and that they say that they didn't know it so they had to review. (that makes sense in my head)
I am the only sane person on the planet. Does that make me crazy?
