What's the word on the Marshall 6100? Is it any good for metal/versatility? How much do they normally go for? USD

good luck finding it new...
my understanding is these were limited production run of less than a thousand.
that was sometime in the early 90's.

expect the $1500 ballpark used in pretty good shape, slightly more with a footswitch included.

3 weeks ago I traded my Mesa Trip Rect for a 6100. I was chasing a specific tone and my Mesa wasnt going to get me there. Once I got it home and played it for awhile all I can say is WOW! The tone is simply awesome. The clean is the best I have heard from a Marshall. Many options to get the tone you are after. This head was a limited production. The 6100LM has more gain and runs 6L6's. I liked the head so much I bought a 6100 full stack. The blue tolex version. IMO this is the best sounding and versatile Marshall.

It depends on the version really. The 6100LE is worth that much and more, yes. The 6100 EL-34 version (made for one year - '92) is worth around $1200, the 6L6 version is worth around $1000 and the 6100LM (6L6 as well) is only worth ~$700-800.

The one you're looking at, Holy-Diver, used to be mine. It is worth ~$1200 on the used market, but many people have never tried them and they are pretty hard to get rid of.

LOL. I would have gone anywhere for a 6100 at the time. 3 weeks lated I drove 362 mile to pick up a 6100 full stack in San Marcos. I got a blue tolex 6100 full stack for $929 at the San Marcos GC.

What? Since since when does San Marcos have good deals like that??
I need to go there sometime. It's aboot 40 mins away from me.

MatrixClaw, what are the various differences between the different 6100's?

There really isn't much of a difference between the 6100LE and the 6100 in the circuit, if anything really (besides the '93 6100 having 6L6s). The LE might have a fewer high quality parts, but the difference is that the LE was a much more limited run and was advertised as being "hand wired," which really isn't true, they were made on an assembly line - no single person sat down and wired the whole thing with super attention to detail. The 6100LM has an updated lead channel, runs on 6L6s, and has quite a bit more gain (voiced more modernly).

The San Marcos store had it priced at $2000 at one point. When it hit $929 I was all over it. This economy has hurt the value of everything. If people dont spend values drop. I got a kick ass Marshall full stack for $929. I still cant believe it. I actually took a pic of the stack set up in my house still with the GC tag on it.

Oh, I see. So the EL34 version is probably what I would like.

And the LE is more expensive because of the hype? That's what I'm gettin' from ya?

The blue tolex (mine) version runs the EL34's. The 6100LM (my other 6100) runs the 6L6's. The original 6100 didnt have the gain boost.

I tried to post pics but UG says they are to big.

Resize 'em man! Or upload them to a Photobucket account, and link them here.

And very try about the economy. I picked up my Peavey VTM fullstack for 300 bucks. Badass JCM800 tone for a steal.

How do I resize? I dont have a photobucket acct. I have one pic on the front of MySpace.
