well i hate modeling amps but i think the best solid state out there is a line 6, i never tried the VOX so maybe that but the vypyr isn't that good i don't find.

My favorite is the Vypyr. But you really need to try them for yourself.

I would go with the Cube
Panties 'round your knees
With your ass in debris
Doin' dat grind with a push and squeeze
Tied up, tied down, up against the wall
Be my rubbermade baby
An' we can do it all

My way - your way
Anything goes tonight

drop line 6 out of the race right now it doesn't have tones near as good as the vypyr or cube. I would say he should go try them but if he can't then he needs to watch some demos or somthing so he can atleast get an idea of what they sound like.

Cube.

Line 6 sounds shitty and is unreliable as hell and the Vypr I just don't like - far too many buttons and push-pull knobs and crap. Cube is simple, and effective.

For the best tingle, use Original Source mint. That shit feels amazing on your balls.

The cube is usable.

Are the others? No.
If you can't find out how to use the Vypyr, that's sad.

There's a slight learning curve, but that's it. And if you're saying it's not usable in terms of tone, then watch this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fDmrpHUGvGs

Pretty decent if you ask me.

If you're playing metal, get the Vypyr.
If you aren't playing metal, get the Cube.

The Vypyr excels at metal, but is ok at everything else as I found that there was too much gain on tap for the less heavier genres.

The Cube can do metal, but doesn't have as much options or features in terms of metal as the Vypyr.

And screw the Spider. It is un-reliable, and sounds digital.

+1 I'm not into SS amps anymore, but I really liked the Cube. Thought it had much better high gain tone then the Vypers I tried. Line 6 really doesn't start to get good until the Flextone series and the Vetta is outstanding.

This.

But I'd also look at the Vyper and the Cube. Avoid the Spider.
Wait.

I'd tell him to get the Vypyr 30. And if he can afford the extra money, then he should go for the Vypyr Tube 60.

Spiders are the worst for the money, very fake and digital. I've never tried a Cube.

From my experience:

The Cube is very, very digital sounding, and so is the Spider.

The VT series are decent for hard rock-ish stuff but fall short for metal.

The Vypyr is his best choice.

My cousin just got a 30W Vypyr in the mail and it's great, especially for metal.

The cube is good amp but does sound 'digital'

It excels and high volumes though

out of all of those i'd take the spider. Vypyr = good clean no distortion, Cube = no clean, no distortion. the spider at least has PASSABLE clean with a half decent distortion. i would get the Vox VT though.
