Ok so the other day, i was at a gig and was wondering why does noone ever use 2x12s. Anyway this set me thinking, if i could wire an 8ohm 4x12 would i be able to run a 4x12 and a 2x12 together at 4ohms?

I have no idea why i thought of this but i couldnt afford getting 2 4x12s and wondered if this would work.

if the ohms work out then why not?

i've seen bassists do that.

I might do that then, cos im getting a new head (not decide which yet though) and a 2x12 for using at home, etc and a 4x12 for gigging. Now i can use both

So like a 3/4 stack? I've actually wondered this too. 4x12 on the ground, 2x12 on top of that, then head on top.. that's what I want to do.

Yh man i think it looks good too.

@everyone: The harley benton's 4x12 and 2x12s both run at 8ohms and have v30s in 'em. Ive heard decent reviews about these, would this be a good 3/4 stack?

Btw for anyone interested i'm getting a VK100/Bugera 333xl because its my first tube amp and ive heard these are good (or in the Bugeras case, getting better i hear)

EDIT: found a picture of somone whos done it.

You can do this. If you have two 8 ohm cabs then set your head to 4 ohms. 16 ohms to 8 ohms. It's kind of confusing. And a 2x12 sounds better on bottom. But, that's just like a personal opinion.

Try to get the 2x12 open, that would be really tight, especially for leads.

what open backed?

look @picture:

how does the 4x12 stay on the 2x12 because it still has castors on it?

How would i run it? just set the selector to 4ohms and just plug 'em both in the 2 paralell inputs?

Some 2x12s have like cups on top that the casters will sit in. And, run them parallel at 4 ohms if you have two 8 ohm cabs.

Yep, or you can just lay the 4x12 on it's side unless it's a slant cab.

I think im getting a slanted cab because the Harley Benton straight cab hasnt got the V30s!

Does anyone have any objections to getting the harley bentons because im trying to stick within spending so much (about £850 max i think)

I've never used Harley Benton, I don't think they're sold in the US without the huge shipping charges anyways.
