my question is simple, i have that head and I want to get as many ideas as I can for the ultimate sound, I need a cheap and great reverb, a good Eq and some ideas to get a clean sound..... Hope you can help to get it with the 900 but if not....

suggest me a cheap and good head ( 500 EUROS) for an A/B clean and distorted set up

What kind of music do you play

cheap reverb - Danelectro
better reverb - Electro Hamonix
cheap EQ - Danelectro
better EQ - MXR 10 band

oh and maybe a chorus pedal
oh and what kind of speakers are in your cab?
oh and Blues Jr, SuperChamp, Vypyr 60, Vox AC4 or Nightrain, Blackstar HT5.

Try changing the output transformer?

As for a clean amp, check out the Bugera V55.

^What is wrong with the OTs on the JCM 900s?

He's probably suggesting that because he changed the OT on his Valveking and it improved the tone.

lol, he's changed so much it's not even a Valveking anymore.

1. ditch the crate cab and get something with celestions.. avatar would be cheap and perfect.
2. sell the head and get a 4100
#8
reverb: tonebug
EQ: dbx 131 ($200 for over 3x the control of a 10-band)
I also 2nd the idea of ditching the crate cab and picking up something (1) made better and (2) loaded better.
#9
my cab got celestion's 30.... and the distortion on the SL-X is f..... good, so the head is perfect, just its a single channel head , I dont really want to change it for a 4100.
About pedals.... my budget is somewhere between 0-200 euros and 500 if a clean head is really indispensable

i have the SL-X as well man. i swaped out my OT after i bought it a while back for a Mercury custom OT. had a clariety mod done to it, and ive had a slight bias mod done to it so i can run KT88s..as well El34 type tubes and 6l6gc's too, they also made ALL the gain in the amp usable even with the gain cranked and volume cranked without getting muddy and flabby.

the amp stock, imo, has some noise and alittle bit of crossover distortion that got on my nerves. a new transformer will give the amp better clarity and beef up the amp a bit. also a custom choke would be good to. what kind of tubes are you running in the head man?

id just get your amp tuned up a bit. i can get a decentish clean tone with the gain at about 1, volume on guitar rolled back a tad and i throw a chorus pedal in front of it to add that glassy clean tone to it

I use a booster & an EQ to get the best of a JCM900. Means You can use it with some cleans and then get some meat behind it as well

I already use a Bad monkey, but the supposed clean is horrible too, so i have 2 options...

A) let the SL-X unmodded and get a B head ( good clean, you can suggest me one fot under 500 euros)
B) save for a bunch of pedals for cleaning the sound ( reverb, chorus, etc) and a EQ

ive never had much luck in finding good tones with Groove tubes, they are not bad tubes, just not for me. i use JJ tubes. running KT88s in the SL-X now.

i had some of my mod work done by a amp tech and had the OT put on by a guy who works for Voodoo Amps and Modifications.

check out Voodoo amps

amd FJA mods online 2 get an idea what mods are avaible for yo amp

you could spend a few hundred $(euros) and have a new sounding amp

the main point is that I love Sl-X sound but I need a clean channel, and Sl-x low gain settings sucks IMO.....

The whole is more than the sum of its parts, and all I've done has been to change a few parts. The circuit is still quite intact.

I was partly basing my opinion off my own experience, but I also saw a video of an FJA-modded SL-X with a new transformer and tubes. It was more dynamic and touch sensitive and seemed to all around perform better than a stock SL-X, both high-gain and low gain. Its cleans were pretty decent when the volume knob was rolled down, so I think it would certainly be an option.

more than a clean clean channel, I need a overdriven clean plus brutal amp distortion. Does really worth modding it better than gettin' another head for A/B?¿

its all what you wanna do man. modding mine helped give a decent clean to the amp with gain down, but playing gigs and all and going between distortion and clean would be a problem though. so maybe getting like a very low wattage head or combo to run clean would be a good option for you.

for real though.. let me get this straight. youre trying to get slightly overdriven cleans and also highgain distortion out of a single channel amp?

the best solution i can think of would be to use the amps clean with a little gain for breakup and get a solid overdrive pedal for your high gain stuff..

i could be completely missing the point here but.. 2cents.. there it is
#33
Im trying to get the best way to archieve that, with pedals or other head, and I think that other head will be the best bet for me...
