I tried out a carvin that was offered to me at 600 usd. (dc135) The sound that came out of the guitar was a bit weak for the music that I like to play. (metal/hxc/death metal/etc.) Would a pickup change help with the sound? Should I reconsider purchasing this guitar and look at other things? If so, what should i look for? Try to keep under 1000usd. New or used is acceptable.
Thanks all!

edit: if you could find a guitar that IS VERSATILE, let me know please! I need it to be able sound good clean, but have a brutal distorted tone. Any suggestions will be researched 'till they cant be researched no more. As you can guess, I'm pretty desperate to get a guitar that is reliable, VERSATILE, and sexy looking. Thanks!

pickups make a big difference however some sound better with different woods
and some sound better with a specific wood than others

the dc135 is made of alder. Stock pups are in it. If that helps.

personally for your style of music, i'd go some sort of mahogany.

Edit: Maybe some sort of ibanez, like an ibanez S series. They are versitile, if you want emgs, ibanez RGT6EXFX

I would go for it and replace the bridge humbucker if it doesn't do the br00talz well enough.

The SH-6 can play jazz to the hardest death-metal you ever heard
to my ears it handles Drop-G an A better than Active pickups
least with an effin ENGL head ftw haha

judgeing by my string guage 12-62 you can tell im
currently in the E-standard to Drop-C range
otherwise would have 14-68

Really, any Jackson X series or higher are awesome. The dinky's are really cool, but they are bolt on (not that i have anything against bolt on) most people prefer set neck or neck thru.

EDIT: Or if you prefer the wizard neck

true that. I am attracted/more fond of neckthru. I was looking at a demmelition some time ago, is that a wise buy? or am i wasting my money. (Ive heard mixed reviews about that thing, including emgs not being able to clean up)

EDIT: the ibanez prestige series are orgasmic. I forgot all about them. I love the wizard neck. The thinner they come, the better. I dont really like the 1550, are there others that are slightly more attractive? S prestige? am i getting ahead of myself?
