SLSMG and SLS3.

If I go for the SLSMG, I'd be replacing the EMGs with a Seymour Duncan JB and a Jazz.

I play mostly metal, so I'm worried the stock '59s that come with the SLS3 won't be heavy enough.

Also, I'm curious if there would be any differences in quality between the two, since I think they're from different Series.

Thanks.
I'll pry open your sphincter and brutally **** you raw.

The quality will be the same as they are the same guitar with different pickups. The 59's are fine for metal, Mark Morton uses 59's and they sound fine.

The '59s will hold you just fine. I've got a JB/'59 setup on my RR3 and they're great for metal.

Great list Rutch. On re-reading this one I'd have to say Solid State means not liquid or gas.

I figured it out.

SH-6 far superior in bridge ceramic magnet vrs alinco i mean hello
and it holds the notes a lot longer under the heaviest gain settings
in alder however you need something bassy like SH-8 nothing
an EQ pedal after guitar cant fix

The jackson guitars you are looking at have yucky wood choice in my opinion

It's okay if you don't have an ear for good wood.

SLS3 all the way imo. The SD will definitely do bruto0lz without a doubt if you have the right set up for it. Also you might want to talk/annoy tommyt on here since he has a SLS3 and loves the thing to death and even slept with it in his bed last time...Anyway yeah bug him about the model he's owned one for a while now.

Haven't gone that far to be honest Phil.

The SLS3 will certainly do metal, it's covered Protest the Hero, Between the Buried and Me and Opeth type tones without a problem and it's go no problems tone wise on the clean end of the spectrum either.

It sound's surprisingly thick for such a thin guitar also, really warm cleans available if you know what you're doing with your amp, comfortable neck profile, good fret access and a slight curve to the body which makes it more comfortable to play imo.

The 59 will definatly be able to cope with heavy sounds.

Only thing is, the SL3MG comes with emg's that he doesn't want so he'd have to change them and as far as I know currently retails at a higher price than the SLS3 or even the SLSMG

So even if he buys the SLSMG and replaces the pickups, he'd probably still save money compared to buying the SL3MG.

Also given that he wants to choose between the SLS3 and the SLSMG that are both hard tails he probably doesn't want the Floyd that the SL3MG comes with.

Anything in the Soloist section
with a mahogany wood, to me
is what sounds best

Mind you im using ENGL amps

the SLS3 Soloist would have more tone without the FR!!
however I personally would still change the bridge pickup
in it but thats just me and my amp

Aye, you do know the SL3MG is alder though not mahogany right?

Also the SLS3 doesn't have a floyd, you're thinking of the SL3MG again.

your not getting the picture, I first said the SL3MG was fine for metal
not taking into the point he wasnt looking for a FR so then I say the
SLS3 Soloist would be best as it uses a Strings-Through-Body

Ah right, then infact it's you who hasn't got the point.

I said the SL3MG was made of alder, not the SLS3 which is mahogany ... I know because I own one.

We'd already established that the SLS3 had a string through and the SL3MG had a floyd.

I mainly play low tunned rhythm guitar so you would
think I clearly just wasn't specific enough on what I was

So you want to buy a guitar, that you don't want ... to play something you don't really play ... on the guitar you do but don't want.

In all honesty you need to pay more attention to the posts you reply to, really read them through.

In threads like this it doesn't matter much but like the intonation thread you sortof missed the point and eventually you're gonna give someone advice that they'll take and it'll cost them money or damage their guitar.

If I were you i'd go for the SLS3, and not the SL3/SLSMG.

Why?

- Because you are considdering the SLSMG, it's clear that you don't REALLY need the floyd on the SL3. A floyd means alot less sustain, a pain in the @ss to change tunings, needs maintenance, is not a good bridge for playing double stops, etc ...

- It has passive seymour duncans, which you are looking for

- the '59 is imo a nicer pickup than the jazz, especially in the neck. Never tried one in the bridge, but I'm sure you can trade the bridge '59 for a JB on the internet easily. They surely can handle the br00talz well:

I'd say this is more brutal the JB isn't quite hot enough for my taste
when you ring out the notes it just doesn't have the same sustain clarity.
