Yeah, Scientology is the most rediculous "religion" out. And this is coming from a guy who finds almost every religion abnormally false. Why the f*** would anyone believe in a Green Alien who belongs in a damn X-Files episode? Biggest bunch of rubbish. I'll bet all I have on the fact that Scientology only uses the tag "religion" to avoid taxes and such.

S*** like this makes me want to slay humanity.

Cult n.
1.
a.A religion or religious sect generally considered to be extremist or false, with its followers often living in an unconventional manner under the guidance of an authoritarian, charismatic leader.
b.The followers of such a religion or sect.
2.A system or community of religious worship and ritual.
3.The formal means of expressing religious reverence; religious ceremony and ritual.
4.A usually nonscientific method or regimen claimed by its originator to have exclusive or exceptional power in curing a particular disease.
5.
a.Obsessive, especially faddish, devotion to or veneration for a person, principle, or thing.
b.The object of such devotion.
6.An exclusive group of persons sharing an esoteric, usually artistic or intellectual interest.

Fits all the definitions of cult.

*Long definition*

Now this here, is where the misconception lie. I'll admit that this is how journalists and the so-called "Anti-cult movement" sees it, but for sociologists and scholars in comparative religion, this is the definition:
(Taken from Partidge's "The Re-enchantment of the West vol 1")
"... the cult to be, like the sect, deviant, in that it exists in some tension with the dominant culture, but, unlike the sect, is not epistemologically exclusivist. ...The authority is within the individual. Charisma is internalized."

Lets see if we can make some visual aid here as well...
It's huge, so: Here you can see it visualized.

Dianetics was a cult (a client cult at that), but the Mr. Hubbard wanted control over it so he started the church, expelling those who challenged the central teachings and his authority, effectively making it into a sect. (Taken from the same book.)

But hey, this is just nitpicking

Edit: Found a better definition (Campbell): "Loosely structured religious groups that make few demands on their members and that are often based on belief systems that deviate from the dominant culture."
