Buying a guitar today, but I don't know what string gauge they come with, nor does the guy I'm buying from. Help please?
Breaking stereotypes by playing indie on a metal guitar.

Current Gear
- Epiphone Les Paul Standard (Plus Top)
- Crappy Strat Copy (Redecorated, looks snazzy)
- Ibanez Acoustic/Electric Guitar
- Ibanez RG1570 Mirage Blue
- Peavey Vypyr 30 Watt

Guitars like that usually come with a regular 9 guage.

Either way, if you're replacing the strings, it's probably not the same brand, and new strings exert more tension than old ones, so it's best to adjust it anyway.

is it new if so its most likely 9s as said above, but if its second hand best getting it set up to use whatever strings you like best.

You CAN play anything with anything....but some guitars sound right for some things, and not for others. Single coils sound retarded for metal, though those who are apeshit about harpsichord probably beg to differ.

I would think the manufacturer would display this information.
It appears 9-42 is indeed the correct size.
Just to add: most guitar makers use D'Addario (Da Darrio) strings

All Ibanez (save for a few) trems are equipped with D'addario 9 - 42, the fixed bridges are 10 - 46.
