I'm writing a paper, and I was trying to make a list of musicians who are good musicians, but aren't technically good. I don't want to start up a debate or anything, but I'm thinking along the lines of Bob Dylan for his voice, and Kurt Cobain for his guitar playing, but I want to expand my horizon, I don't want to just list rock musicians.

Joe Satriani. Sure, he's a horrible guitarist, but his lyrics are incredible.

Billie Joe Armstrong. As much as he's hated here, he doesn't play flashy stuff on guitar and yet Green Day is one of the biggest bands in the world.

Well I meant that bob dylan has an amazing voice, but it's not that good really and Kurt Cobain can write amazing music, but his guitar playing wasn't that great live.

Like Tom Waits, he can sing, but his singing is weird... and John Frusciante's first two albums, most people cant' stand the singing, but the only notes he really hit were right here

You could say Clapton and Hendrix weren't the best singers but they didn't need to be because they let their playing speak for itself and establish the songs groove.

I would consider Clapton a good singer, on occasion great.

Yeah he's good and his voice fit his music well. But I also think that when he was starting out he couldn't go wrong getting a lead singer for his band. His voice improved with time, as of right now I wouldn't have anyone else sing for him.
