How would one go about doing this? I've got an SG with two humbuckers with chrome covers on them (also would a cover without holes change the tone at all?)

The metal covers on Gibson-style humbuckers just lift off. Remove the pickup and pull the cover off of it. A pickup cover with no holes will have no effect on your tone. The holes just allow you to adjust the screw-top polepieces without removing the cover.

You need to ensure you have the right pickup spacing.
For humbuckers theres obviously humbuckers but
there are also trembuckers.

You will have to drill holes to allow the poles to be adjusted to
their propper height, and also will have to strip the chrome off
two spots in the inside of the pickup to give you something
for solder to stick to. This will keep the cover from coming off

It is also best to put wax in it, to keep the vibrations from making
unwanted noise!!

Thats exactly how the Duncan factory does their covers for pickups

Duncan Woody XL Pickup w/ stock fishman EQ

Schecter C1+ Darksunburst w/ SH-4 (N) & SH-6 (B) 24.75"

Just because its simpler doesnt mean its right. Metal covers usually have solder holding them on that needs to be cut or melted to get it off. And going from covers with 6 screw pole pieces to ones without will make problems. As you will have to put the screws back in before you put the new cover on which will probably make the new cover sit cockeyed.

I'm going with the first post, because it seems simpler. Thanks

even simpler would be to paint a new cover on with nail polish.

like said, doesnt mean it's the way to go.

even if you dont want adjustable poles. you'll still risk feedback, if you dont pot the pup after putting on a new one.

also like said, they usually have solder holding them on.
