Should point out that Doctor Rock has a point, by the way - we do have some of the biggest nutters (usually in a funny way) in the country.

I'd agree with those, but that's because they're the only ones i've heard on that list you made.
Mastodon - Crack the Skye was easily the best album this year for me. Then the ones you mentioned and Muse, Fall of Troy and Converge.
edit: Just went through the list, that was pretty bad, apart from a few albums.

Much better. I gave Obscura and Behemoth the benefit of the doubt, since I don't listen to em much.

I actually already had almost half of those albums.

These bands aren't obscure guys, you just can't find your way out of metal.

Agreed on Porcupine Tree - The Incident and Mastodon.

I think we should have a pretty accurate list by now. =D

I do realize most of my bands were metal or some subgenre, with a few exceptions, but I do think that those were some of the best albums of the year. It's not that I don't think the albums from other styles are good, I just personally favor more technical instrumentalism of which metal has a lot and most other genres have little. (And yes I know that perhaps a few of the albums I selected don't have so much of that - good none the less)

Don't get me wrong, if Rodrigo Y Gabriela released an album this year he would be in my top 10. And flamenco is pretty far from metal.

EDIT*** Holy **** they did release an album! I have to get on that!

That should have been much higher.

I only agree with the positions held by Animal Collective and Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Nothing else, that list was ****ing horrible. This coming from a "hipster" who seems to be who this list was oriented towards. I'll take Pitchfork over shitty Gigwise any day.

EDIT: ^agreed, I have no idea how they managed not to mention Dinosaur Jr and Silversun Pickups, but have Eminem's Relapse on there. That list seems like it's trying to appeal to everyone, but comes off as having absolutely no idea what it's talking about.

EDIT2: And whoever said Cage the Elephant, that album came out in like '07

Gigwise lists are always utter shit, as are NME. Unless you incorporate every genre you can't have a best of albums list. Once you incorporate every genre nobody will know anything on the list. :P

Okay, I've only heard of like, 3 of those bands
Guitars:
-Gibson Les Paul Custom Shop Silverburst (Invader/'59)
-Fender Standard Telecaster HH Black (SH-5/'59)
-Fender Standard Stratocaster HH White (Nazgul/'59)
-Austin Guitars Les Paul Goldtop Copy (Distortion/'59)
-Ovation ApplauseAE44II Elite Black Acoustic

Amps/Cabs
-Peavey 6505+
-Peavey Stereo Chorus 2x12 Combo
-Behringer Ultracoustic ACX450 1x8 Acoustic Combo
-Marshall MX2x12 Cabinet

Wayyyyy too many effects pedals...

Baroness - the Blue Record
The Flaming Lips - Embryonic
Kylesa - Static Tensions

Merriweather Post Pavillion by Animal Collective is nowhere near close. It's probably one of the worst albums of the decade.

How many albums have you listened to this decade? Because even if you think it's bad (which I won't argue, even if it pains me), there has been much MUCH worse stuff released this decade.

Yeah, I guess there has. I still fail to find anything appealing about shitty Beach Boys-esque choruses drowned out by countless layers of directionless, sporadic noise.

If I want AC, I'll listen to Feels or Sung Tongs. This album is just awful.

EDIT: Also, there's nothing appealing about a ratings system based from hype and the ass backwards opinions of a bunch of aging hipsters with agendas. Lift Your Skinny Fists gets a 9 while MPP gets a 9.1? There is something scarily wrong with that.

In that case I'll respect your opinion, it just felt like you were mindlessly trolling at first . But yeah it's all a manner of taste, I don't expect everyone to like the weird stuff I like

EDIT: I don't look too much into Pitchfork ratings, but if its generally pretty good, I'll check it out. I feel that they show the best news and make better best-of lists than everyone else though, and that's why I'm a follower.

I can respect that. I just dislike the writers. You might get a kick out of this, though:

http://addictivethoughts.com/2009/04/14/for-posteritys-sake-the-infamous-ryan-sjohn-coltrane-pitchfork-review/

Also, best of lists kinda piss me off. None of the music is accurately represented and the top ten are usually a farce.

Besides, it's hard to say what music is objectively better than other music, especially when you consider the diversity of genres, intention behind its specific creation, etc etc.

I remember reading about that, but never actually saw it.

And I find the Pitchfork lists are pretty good for mindless reading, plus you don't have to turn the page to see each individual album. I also usually get a kick out of the worst album art of the year lists
