Im wanting to paint my guitar but I don't want to go for a standard, plain colour or sunburst. I made a few designs on GIMP and I was wondering which one you gyus like the most because I can't decide on my own.

1.

Do you think it'd be ok to just let the paint drip?

2.

Ahhh... good old VH (dont really want to go for this one...)

3.

Something I came up with quickly

4.

Yeah... thats it, if you know any other good simple designs please suggest. And I was wondering if its possible to leave the pickguard off because it kindof ruins it unless i get a see through one...

Thanks, and please comment

The first one. At a push. Because all the others are terrible.
Time is a great teacher. Unfortunatly, it kills all of its pupils.

The Van Halen design is done to death, the red, black and white stripe one is ugly, and the Wylde style guitar thing is just disgusting.

You want unique? Get a naked wood body, but get something exotic with an amazing grain. Walnut, or Zebrawood for example. Ostentatious paint jobs just look tacky.

This exactly.

I think 3 has potential, why not tweak it a bit and make it plaid?

No, as the scratchplate hides the routing for the controls and wiring. Like this...

None are more hopelessly enslaved than those who falsely believe they are free.

you could do a strat without the pick guard if you built it not like a strat. Meaning, you route out the body then put a top wood over it with pickup rings (see PRS and Gibson guitars). which seems like a lot more work than it's worth... just do the green british one and paint the pick guard/pickup covers (with the pickups NOT in)

EDIT:
I also want to see the splash marks in those exact locations.

instead of no guard, which is possible but difficult with a body previously meant to have one, go with a clear pickguard, which in combo with the green and black union jack could look pretty sweet (exposed wiring and such could look pretty cool)

I was thinking about a see through guard as well but I don't really want to spend 25 quid on a guard unless there is no other way out...

How would I go about painting a pickguard? do you have to sand it or something?

+1. That'd look CRAZY good.

as per painting the pickguard, I'd assume you should be able to just go ahead and paint right on it. Maybe lightly score it with some steal wool if you're worried about the paint staying.

1 or 4, 4 might be hard though.
so idk probably 1, because you basicly cant stuff it up. so thats good if its your first time doin this sorta thing.

Ok, I think I'll go for the clear pickguard since everyone says it's too hard to have no pickguard... and also I like the whole guitar huggerz idea but with a UK shipping charge of $136.29 I think I'll pass

The winning design is the first one but the poll doesn't include my union jack one, which is my fav by far, so that's what I'll be going for.

And if you have any more ideas or design suggestions please post as I'm planning the project for sometime January.

Also I was thinking of a different flag since I live in Scotland and scottish people dont like being called british maybe the rebel flag?

Something must be wrong on the shipping charges..I'll check it out. That should only be about $15.00 to ship to you.

Three has the most potential if you centered the vertical racing stripes and make them stand out from the horizontal background stripes more. For example you could make the background black and white with red racing stripes or something like that. The whole punk green splatter flags are cool and all but seem a little cliche and over done. But they are much more well planned out than your other ideas so go with whatever you like best.

Thats exactly what I thought was wrong with my designs...i just did them - no plans. Anyway,
I posted this in the small questions thread as well but I thought I'd just post it here too, I decided I'll go for the green Union Jack and I chose a few paints and just wanna make sure i picked the right ones

Clear Coat

Black

Green

White

Could someone also explain to me what the whole primer thing does and if I have to get it should i just get it in a colour or a clear one or what?
