Dear UG,

I may be buying one of these at a hefty discount on Friday and was wondering if there are any clear signs (other than serial no, which checks out) which show that this is indeed the guitar that it claims to be.

I'm slightly dubious because of the big discount, but the guy is physically bringing it to me to give it a try so I was hoping for some tips at identification. The only difference I can see is the bridge being different on the American Vintage. Is there anything else obvious to go on?

Cheers guys,

Well the bridge mute/cover is removable anyhow.

It should say near the heel of the neck (above where its joined to the body) or on the headstock somewhere where it was made. The radius is more curved on the AVs than the MIMs. And should have better quality pickups which is kind of a hard judgement to make.
