So pretty much, i have a cheap Dean Edge bass that I use for messing around and recording, as guitar is my primary instrument.

I changed the strings on the bass for the first time a few days ago, but the tuners for the two thinnest strings have broken. They tighten up to a certain point, i hear a crack, and it drops back down in tuning instantly.

I'm going to assume that it's the cheap tuners.. so to fix this..should I just change tuners?

If so.. how hard is it to do? any recommendations for brands?

It happened to me, but I just sent my bass back in as it was still under warranty and got a brand new one. The first one lasted 11 months, this 2nd one has lasted a little less than 3 years but still works great.

But wouldn't all that be worth it to ride a zebra around campus? Perhaps dressed in chainmail? Maybe with a plastic sword and a wench who may or may not just be a prostitute?
