I've recently got a new Jazz bass and I'm a little disappointed with the sustain (the tone is sweet but it doesnt last very long) as I'm used to a string-through ATK. Is there away to increase the sustain without a distortion pedal.

Compressor? I dunno if they make them for basses, I'm assuming they do though

EDIT: lol yeah they definately do
Gear
Highway One Tele (w/Custom Shop 51 Nocaster pickups)
Standard Tele (modded to Nashville specs)
Reverend Roundhouse

Orange Rockerverb 50 MKI
Vox AC4c1
Jet City JCA20H

And pedals!

if you can spend a bit of money you could try and find a luthier that would be able to convert a bass to string through. I personally haven't heard of it happening before, but it doesn't seem illogical. Your best cheap solution I think would be a compressor though.

The Aphex Punch Factory, Boss CS-3 and EHX Black Finger are all compressors I've been looking into lately, and aren't too expensive. Maybe start with these three and look into others that take your interest.

Nothing helpful to say, don't say anything at all.

Op, just out of interest, what sort of music do you play?

Literally everything but jazz, ironically. I do lean more towards the harder end (lol) though, like QOTSA, Audioslave, etc.

the Demeter compulator is pricy, but I've heard nothing but good things.

I very much hope to receive this for christmas.

I have a jazz that I put a BAII on, and found the sustain more than enough. To each his own I 'spose though, and a compressor would be what you're looking for.
