I was browsing around AOL news and i found this interesting article. Since obese passengers have become a problem, the airline companies want to charge them extra for a ticket. Do you agree with this? Personally I think its stupid to charge someone extra money based on how much they weigh.

EDIT: ugh link fail

On one hand, I would agree, as I had to sit next to some huge lady on a plane for three hours one time, while she hogged up the armrest and I had to lean into the aisle to get room.

On the other hand, your link doesn't work.

If you have to paymore for going a little over cargo weight, to 'pay for extra fuel', why shouldn't the same apply to the generally more varied weight of people?

No offence was intended btw.

Yes, if part of them is in my seat, they should pay for the part of the seat they take up. If they can contain themselves to their own seat, no.

Awe. It was nice of you to translate from Wtf to English so we could understand.

And no they shouldn't.

I don't understand why this is still debated. Why isn't everyone bitching about car manufacturers making them pay more for larger cars? Why aren't people bitching about Kellog's making them pay more for a larger box of cereal?

Yes! I had to sit next between some incredibly large people for a 13 hour flight! It was a horrible experience in my life that I don't wish to repeat.
#15
I don't think this would solve anything though. Maybe if they charge a little less to the poor sap who has to sit next to gigantor, that might help.

Dude! I worked at the airport. Do you know how important it is to get the weight right? If that plane isn't balanced properly, everyone dies in a crash. Since the standard weight of an adult is calculated by most airlines to 287 pounds, making a 400 pound fat person pay extra (cuz they take up more than the standard weight) makes sense considering that the fat person screws up the weight count. If they didn't charge extra, there could be more plane crashes. Trust me.

/end rant

Edit: Apparently those who voted in the pole agree.

How would that not solve anything...? They get 2 seats so no one gets bothered by their large McBody and also it means they will have less money to spend at mcdonalds. Win win!

As someone genetically predesigned to be generous to others sitting around me (in short I'm small) I am always the one to cop the brunt of others' girth when sitting on transport. I don't see how that's fair. It may not be the person's fault if they are obese (though it probably is), but it's not right that others should be made very uncomfortable because of that.

That should be illegal. That guy is a serious hazard! On a plane! Imagine if they crashed and had to get out quickly. The airline is putting the other passangers at risk by not getting that extra seat (which he should pay for).

Charge them more if they take up more than one seat.

Or include your own weight in the allowed weight for cargo.

They aren't getting charged for extra weight, they are getting charged for extra volume.

Also, nice link.

No they want to charge them for the weight. Airlines don't give a shit about your comfort. They do care about how much fuel they have to burn on the take off roll and climb out. Every extra pound costs about 10 bucks to get a 737 off the ground into cruise.
Ya charge them.

Why should they be able to have two seats for the price of one while a couple has to buy two for the price of two? If their obesity is self-induced, they pay the consequences - that's fair ain't it?

I think he means that is the weight that airlines alot for one person, to factor onto calculations. It's better to overestimate than to underestimate.

i voted yes.

why haven't fat people had a movement yet?

i mean first it was women, then blacks, now gays. eventually we will only have fat people to discriminate against. i can't wait. like its gonna be so awesome to have ur city road blocked off for a fat pride parade. like giant bacon floats, fat people on it waving spatulas and throwing cinnabons everywhere.

i can not ****ing wait.

Oh, luggage included...still...with a fairly conservative estimate of around 200lbs for a male adult, that's 87 pounds of luggage a person...

You will see in the future airlines charging for people above "average" It's not Deltas fault Andre wants to fly somewhere.
