Don't tell me that this belongs to the relationship thread...
Just thought it was very interesting

I just learned in Health class that falling in love (something greater than a sexual affection or a simple crush) can seriously improve your mental health.
When the teacher talked about this, everything kinda made sense to me.

When you see someone and start to worship him or her as a god, and everything feels different to you, from the taste of food to the weight of your guitar.
And that's actually good for you.

First, it gives you a self-esteem boost and can potentially get you out of depression. Second, it lets you focus on emotions rather than sex (which means we fap waaay less, which is exactly what I experienced). Third, your musical side is stimulated. My teacher, who's a guitar player, said his musical side opened up

Then she leaves you and you spiral into depression and resort to hard drugs and liquor as your companion and end up homeless.

Love is not an emotion, it's categorized as a motivator.

It gets you to do things to achieve a personal goal. Lose weight, think more broadly, etc...

But when you can't reach that goal it can be debilitating

that's like what's happening to me now but i don't wanna say "love" yet because im afraid it'll ruin it.

Sorry for the mood killer, but I felt it was appropriate.

Here I sit at the fire
Liquor's bitter flames warm my languid soul
Here I drink alone and remember
A graven life, the stain of her memory
In this cup, love's poison
For love is the poison of life
Tip the cup, feed the fire,
And forget about useless hope

Lost in the desolation of love
The passions we reap and sow
Lost in the desolation of life
This path that we walk

Here's to love, the sickness
The great martyr of the soul
Here's to life, the vice
The great herald of misery
In this cup, spiritus frumenti
For this is the nectar of the spirit
Quench the thirst, drown the sorrow
And forget about cold yesterdays

Lost in the desolation of love
The passions we reap and sow
Lost in the desolation of life
This path that we walk
Lost in the desolation of love
The sorrows we reap and sow
Lost in the desolation of life
The path that we walk

yea that's only if the other person loves you back though. otherwise you'll probably be depressed and sexually frustrated.

but yeah, love is great!

its really 100% simple truth. You feel like nothing can go wrong, and that you cant do anything wrong.

I heard that there is a similarity between the chemicals that get released in your brain when you're in love and the chemicals that get released when you're on cocaine.

Something along those lines.
It was a graveyard smash.

Experiencing love also increases the number of crap love songs produced ten fold.

haha its great for your mental health, especially after you down a handful of pills when you break up.
This is why I don't like arguing on the internet.

I know when I'm in love, I am much more aware of the food that I eat, because I don't want to get fat. You know.... to keep myself in shape so she won't reject me because I am fat.

I exercise a lot too. Again, to keep myself in shape so when it's time to get naked with the lady.......

Interesting points but I can't help but disagree with the idea that falling in love is good for your mental health. Self-esteem gained from the affection from another person is not true self-esteem and is not healthy. It's called co-dependence. You need to be confident yourself instead of relying on another human being for confidence.

People change and life situations change and when that person you rely on leaves... your self-esteem is devastated IF you relied on them.

Reality is that "love" is more of a state of brain chemistry that occurs to promote procreation; perceived euphoria, tunnel-vision, "butterflies"... It goes back to the caveman days when human beings needed to reproduce as much as possible to survive. Not only is "love" a state of brain chemistry but it's also an outdated one because now, unlike thousands of years ago, the Earth is overpopulated.

In conclusion, the kind of "love" that you're talking about is closer to a mental illness than anything healthy.

Make friends, have sex, live life and don't take things so seriously. Romantic love is mostly an illusion and a sad joke that does far more damage to people than the supposed benefits are worth.
