got to be a quality tube amp no SS

He asked for versatility. Not whether or not to buy tube or solid state.

Need more info, TS. Price range? Playing styles?

Erm.. That was the TS...

Most versatile I've seen is the Fender Twin, gives really nice tones from blues -> metal.

Metal with a Twin? I've never heard of anybody doing that before. I'm not saying it couldn't be done either, but that's honestly a bit surprising to me.

This one gets my vote. Wicked amp.

super sonic. however a twin or an old dual showman sound great, have gobs of headroom, and take pedals like a champ. so you can do anything from country to jazz to metal.

I own a Fender - DeVille (2x12).

It's honestly the sweetest amp i've ever owned.

Awesome clean tones and is ridiculously loud.

I use alot of effects pedals and it seems to handle these fine, I play anywhere between clean to metal distorted..

One of those Twins with the Red Channel from the '80s... Twin cleans and Mark distortion, I think.
