No surprises and no waits! Here she is, boys!

THE LANEY TT50-112 COMBO (discontinued version)

Just FYI, this once belonged to a currently famous guitar musician in Hong Kong. He bought it in the late 80s early 90s (according to him) and he sold it to me for 3500 HKD (which is about 440 USD). The newer TT50s retail for 1750 USD.

The condition was as expected. The owner had a cat, who messed up the front grill. Theres dust and mold everywhere but that's expected after 10-20 years of gigging.

Ibanez TBX30R side to side with the new Laney .

Control panel. All moldy and dusty. Lots of knobs and awesome stuff. Love it. Came with footswitch too.

Whole amp shot.

footswitch!

What I have to say about it:

For the price, it can't be beaten. I like the old look of it...looks very 'relic'ed. . I could probably sell it for a lot more than I paid for it. It's very British-voiced. I can rip some Van Halen, Guns N Roses, Led Zep EASILY on this amp. Modern metal is a struggle, but it SORT of gets there with a bit of EQing. It's not a loose, percussive metal tone. It's more of a smooth, trebley lead. Still amazing though

The tone is absolutely stunning. Losing my tube virginity is amazing, and comparing my old amp side-to-side, theres simply no competition.

The combo is loaded with a Celestion Classic Lead 80 speaker (Celestion G12). The previous owner had the transformer modified. I have no clue how old the tubes are but atm they sound okay. They are EL34 power tubes btw.

Clips coming soon! (don't expect much. All I have is a cheapo karaoke microphone!)

BTW, one of my EL34 power tubes is glowing quite strongly...the other EL34 is barely glowing at all. Does that mean I need to get that tube replaced?

Thanks.

I just tried recording with my crappy Chinese-made karaoke microphone. My amp deserves much better than this! It sounds really processed through this crappy mic...so clips may take a while.

I actually need to get some rest now it's night time over here. =P

When you say strongly... is it a RED glow?

If you want metal, I suggest you boost the front end. My old Laney VH100R got CRAZY br00tz tone with an OD in the front and 6L6GC tubes.

I only tried the head version, but it was pretty tasty. Not quite as wicked as the VH100R, but it's certainly more diverse and practical.

Thanks guys. It's a strong orange glow in one EL34, a very dim orange glow in the other EL34.

I tried running a Maxon OD808, a Fulltone OCD and even some other high-end lovepedal, TS9s, Zvex ODs through it and I couldn't get the high-gain tone I wanted.

But then I tried running a MXR DIMEBAG distortion and I figured out, my expectations of tube amps were probably too high and the high-gain sound I'm getting now is already pretty decent.

Perhaps change the tubes to 6L6s or 6V6s? An MXR 10-band EQ would hopefully fix that problem too. The high-gain sounds of the TT50 are absolutely KILLER for the brown sound, some GnR.

T00b picz coming soon.

This amp really pronounces my mistakes haha. Also be warned...this mic does the amp no justice. this mic kills the low-end and the harmonics.

Hey, so you're a fellow Asian eh?

Hong Kong's atmosphere is great. If you love to shop, this is the place to be. However the pollution is horrible sometimes. It's a great place to buy guitar gear, new ones at least! The used market is tiny and I was lucky to find this used Laney. Unlike the UK and the USA, all amp brands seem to be quite balanced in price, in contrast to the UK (where USA amps like Peaveys and mesas are overpriced) and the USA (where Laneys and Oranges are overpriced).

Yeah I'm Asian.

Though some guy thought I was freaking white, and my parents and sisters have laughed at me since. I guess I'm one of those converted asians lol.

Same here in Canada. The used market fails here in my opinion, though sometimes you do get lucky. It seems you have to make a "wanted ad" in order to get someones attention, rather then waiting for someone to make an ad.

I have google alert each month. Please make sure you don't do that anymore in the future, I don't think it is a good idea to use someone's name(even someone that not famous-me) without their permission to market your stuff.

Sorry, it was not on purpose!! The store where I bought it from, they told me it belonged to some famous musician called Simon. So I googled 'Simon guitarist hong kong' and your name popped up so I assumed it was you!
