Anyone here play flute? Is it a hard instrument to learn?

I've been listening to Jethro Tull and I really want to give flute a go:

WRONG.

The only reason it exists is because drugs get people fucked up, and people love getting fucked up.

Skinflute is easier though, according to my girlfriend.

i played flute for about 8 years. starting off can be difficult, embouchure etc. but once you get past that, it is easier than you think. i really would recommend getting lessons .

I play flute, have for 3 years now. I don't know how hard it would be to start on as a first woodwind, because i played bagpipes and oboe long before i ever played flute. You will probably want a teacher to make sure that you don't get any bad habbits.

what are these 'bad habbits' you speak of?

do you mean like touching the flute with your teeth?

Ive played for goin' on 6 years now, and i really dont remembering it being hard to pick up. Generally it probably wouldnt be too bad, but i will say that Ian Anderson is an exceptionally talented player; it might take quite a bit of work.

I haven't played mine for a few years now, but aparently in can take beginning flute players weeks to make real notes come out of it. It took me one afternoon. Now, I'm not a prodigy or anything, but I was fairly decent at it, and once I got notes coming out, it was pretty easy to pick up and make music. Now I want to play my flute agin.

i play flute, have been for a while now,in the begging you will find it arkward to hold and also the embouchure will be a bit of a bitch, i would definetly reccomend getting lessons
You are free to do what we tell you.

Flute's not too hard, the fingerings are pretty sensible, except it's usually hard to get proper embouchure when you first start. It's also pretty easy to sing while playing like Ian Anderson does, which in addition to sometimes sounding cool, helps cover up mistakes.
