Short and sweet; awesome new local shop's owner is offering to pop a set of locking Schallers(normally $75) onto my stratocaster for $50. Being as I've wanted a set on my strat for a while and this is cheaper it's a no-brainer for me, but I just wanted to check beforehand; I know rather than just subtle waggling this will allow me to start messing with my strat's trem, but I wanted to know how much? Just a little more, if I can start divebombing it, or if I can begin using it way more than I should a la Steve Vai?

6 point or 2 point trem?

You really won't be able to do much trem wanking with a six point - but a Wilkinson or USA Fender 2 point could (requires widening of the outer 2 screw holes for the studs).

I have Sperzels+ a Wilkinson 2 point on my guitar, and it stays in tune very nicely, even doing Satch-esque stuff.

You CAN play anything with anything....but some guitars sound right for some things, and not for others. Single coils sound retarded for metal, though those who are apeshit about harpsichord probably beg to differ.

Edit; ^Not referring to Floyds mate. Still can't stand locking trems.

Oneblackened: Six-point. I've been thinking about/wondering if I could retrofit it though. Could I?

It will help stability alot, but most of the time when guitars go out of tune because of tremwank, it's at the nut. Push down on the bar, the strings slide through the nut, and sometimes, it won't come all the way back, thus your guitar goes out of tune.

If you get a Graphtech nut, or just keep your nut well lubed, then you should be able to do alot more with the trem then previously.

sure, it's not hard. Just widen the holes on the outside. tap the studs in. done.

Hmm...would it be worth the hassle of installing an LSR roller nut, or should I just lubricate the synthetic one on now with graphite?

Hmm...how much does one taken from an Am. Std. cost?

If you remember to keep it lubed, then it should work just fine

New, $90. I'd seriously suggest the wilkinson, as it's the same price (around $90) but the knife edge on the left is flat, so it can be narrower or wider than the american standard trem. The wilkinson will fit without drilling a new hole; the US trem won't.
