it really doesn't matter. each one has a different purpose.

if i want to learn something fast i use a tab and listen to the music. when i'm learning classical stuff i use sheet music because it usually has more notations on how to play the piece correctly.

I try and do things by ear first, if that fails I try and watch a live video of the song to copy the fingering visually, if that fails I then resort to tab.
