Hi

I am looking for a distortion pedal (typical guitarist search ). I was looking at the Boss DS-1 but, without mods, people generally seem to think that they are not very good. I have seen the Danelectro cool cat distortion and I was wondering if they are any better? Im open to any other suggestions aslong as the price is below £50.

Thanks
jihedley

I know someone who has both and i can honestly say that there's not really any obvious differences between as far as the quality of the sound goes.

although i will say there's nothing wrong with the boss DS-1 at all - my advice would be for you to go and try one to see if you like it. obviously it's not to everyone's taste but there's too many people absent mindedly bashing them and those people shouldn't be taken seriously.
Rig Winter 2017:

Fender Jazzmaster/Yamaha SG1000
Boss TU-3, DS-2, CS-3, EHX small stone, Danelectro delay
Laney VC30-112 with G12H30 speaker, or Session Rockette 30 for smaller gigs
Elixir Nanoweb 11-49 strings, Dunlop Jazz III XL picks
Shure SM57 mic in front of the amp

Ok thanks. That really helped . I'll go into town tomorrow and have a go and see which I prefer.

Thanks for the help

I would look at the Dano Drive before the Distortion.
The Distortion is thin and artificial sounding.
The Drive does a good job of sounding like a cranked tube amp. When the gain knob is set high it has nice thick mids, crunchy highs and loads of sustain.
