Hello. I'm looking to buy a new/used high gain amplifier that will have good cleans as well. My price is range is around 500 dollars. The bands I like are BTBAM ( love their sound), Gojira, Opeth, Cynic, Nile, Obscura, Mastodon. I've heard good things about the Line 6 Vetta 1 combo. The guitar I use the most is an ESP EX400 with EMG 81 and 60.

Thank you for your time !

You could do much better than the Flexwave with that budget.

Check out the Vypyr Tube 60.

I have a multipedal which I can work out distortion from, but a high gain amp would help.

maybe a used peavey 6505

^This.

Cept Mastodon uses JCM800's.
Peavey sounds pretty Brit voiced for a Yank amp anyway.
Guitars:
Gibson Les Paul Standard
Gibson Explorer New Century
Gibson RD Artist
Fender American Standard Telecaster

Amps:

Framus Cobra
Marshall JCM800 2203 - 1960A

Pedals:

Rockbox Boiling Point Overdrive

+1. Or maybe a used Triple XXX, and swap out the 6L6s for EL34s

The Vypyr Tube 60 is a modeler...

Consider the following as well:

- Peavey XXX
- Peavey Ultra Plus
- Peavey VTM
- Peavey Butcher
- Ampeg VH140c
- Red Bear Amps MK60
- Sovtek MIG

The Vetta combo would work well, too.

You can get a Peavey Triple XXX in combo form. If im not mistaken, I believe that there's a 2x12 combo on ebay right now for about your price range.

Edit: That one was already sold, but they do have a 40 watt Triple XXX currently going for $360

You just described the Bugera 6262 combo, if you're willing to part with an extra 150 for a new one.

And if you're willing to risk it crapping out on you. I haven't heard anything good about Bugera's quality.

I'm still thinking the modelling capabilities of the vetta 1 combo destroy these amps.

Biggest joke of a response I've heard on UG IN A LONG TIME. The Flexwave is bad piece of gear that does not sound anything like the tube amps it claims to emulate.

Please avoid that POS like the Black Plague. Its' only good for 3 things:

1. Paperweight
2. Coffee stand
3. Kindling.

You need to check for amps like the Peavey 6505+ 112 combo for the chugga chugga required. Otherwise consider one of the Bugeras... I think its the 6262 or something along that line (basically a copy of the 6505+).

The build quality of the '09 revisions are GIGANTICALLY better than any of the earlier models. For the most part you can throw all those QA issues out the window.

OP, definitely check out the Bugera 6262, 333 and 333XL.

Look for a used XXX Super 40 combo, I have one amazing amp can do british tones decently well too.

I'm not looking for british tones at all, I'm looking for a progressive death metal tone that also has very soft cleans. I'll have a look at the triple xxx and those bugeras, and the 6505.

You trollin', bro? Like people are saying, go for a used Peavey 5150 or 6505. You might also be able to find a Marshall JCM 900 used in that range if you're lucky.

Your budget is too low for a tube amp that has both really good distortion and cleans - those tend to cost upwards of $1K. You could go with something like the peaveys already recommended (and cope with the only OK cleans), or get a modeler. What modeler to get depends on how much volume you want to produce, but I would go Line 6.

You should also think about whether it makes sense to get a head or a combo. If you plan to upgrade later, paying for speakers over and over gets kinda old.

My blow your budget recommendation would be a used Mesa Tremoverb.

This or the Bugera 6262 NEW which is the cheap alternative to the 6505.

I'd be worried the solder, pots, tube sockets and jacks on those wouldn't be up to real use.

Maybe I'm just a cheap amp bigot.

The Vetta slays most of these suggestions. So i say vetta, or 6506/5150, JCM2000/800/900, Try and pick up a used carvin maybe?

Ask the people in the Bugera thread who've been gigging with the '09 models all year. Seriously, they are really solid.

And if you want peace of mind then spend some extra cash on it and have it inspected by an amp tech and have anything you're worried will break replaced/upgraded.

If so that's great. The market needs more reasonably priced amps that don't break.

Don't get the LS series - it's crap.

The AT100 head and cab combo would be good for what you wanna do but it might be out of your budget just a hair.
