In this forum, i seem to hear alot of hate on nu metal. Now nu metal was the thing in the early 2000's and late 1990's. Because of a huge generation gap, you guys seem to not know any new rock bands of the late 2000's. Since im still a teenager, i'll show you what people listen to today. And to all of you, i'll say one thing: I am not kidding. This is real.

Timeline of rock music from the year 2000:

2000 -

2002 -
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8-XYZhyFKpU

2007 - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y4eJ9_R2f-A

2009 - before you see this video, be aware this can cause people vomiting, diarrea etc.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yPCkylQKTTE

this is not biased whatsoever. this is a generlization. i wished to put up what ive done for 2007 but that would be biased.

and in my opinion? after 2002 rock started to go down, and by 2009, its pop. no more rock
if you really dont think all songs this year sound like that, listen to marianas trench and mayday parade.
Go Ibanez!

.... rock was dead as soon as the sixties ended... get over it...... i absolutely hated the pop punk movement of the early 00's and now its 2009, looking back on it it really wasnt that bad.... if you dont like it dont listen to it

All this proves is that you can cherry pick songs from mediocre/terrible bands.
#6
Personally, I think all those songs suck anyways.
But being on topic, like Carrionshine said, music changes. I bet if every band out right now were to sound like Linkin Park (as you put on your list) you'd probably bitch about how rock is dead cause everyone sounds like Linkin Park.

Music is always a lose-lose situation for people who are afraid of change, they're either mad about every band sounding the same or the style changing and the "death" of the genre.

It's music, if you don't like it, don't listen to it or write your own.

well tell me if there are any other song that describes those times.

honestly, i tried to be open minded and tried listening to other songs released this year. actually i get made fun of because i dont listen to it. it sucks.
you make fun of people who listen to mainstream. I get made fun of cuz i dont listen to mainstream.
Go Ibanez!

it looks like every song today are either heavily overproduced
or heavily autotuned.
i dont think those "changes" are good, cuz i bet in 30 years kids would listen to music created by robots.

But you like nu metal?
that is the metal equivalent of the point you're trying to make.
Also, there are a lot of high profile rock bands that are talented.
Been in Japan since August, no fucking money left!

So what, rock's not on the radio anymore? Doesn't mean it just died. Go find some bands that aren't just handed to you by Top 40 charts.
#11
Right, because Linkin Park is the epitome of 2000's rock.

I could just as well pick a horrible song from 2000 and a great song from 2009 and say that rock music is getting exponentially better.

Edit:

On the contrary, it seems like all you pay attention to is the mainstream. I'm sure if you stopped looking to the mainstream to dictate your opinions on today's rock music, you'd find great music.

Edit 2: Wait, you're using Linkin Park to describe the greatness of early 2000's rock, and you say you don't listen to the mainstream?

Okay. This is a band who clearly actually care about what they are doing musically. They bring in other talented players on this song, Larry Harlow and John Frusciante. They go from jazz fusion, to salsa, to shoegaze, all the while playing Led Zeppelin style beats on the drums. I don't believe rock music is dead at all. I think people just don't understand that mainstream music has never been that great and most bands people now assume were mainstream in the sixties and seventies were actually part of the underground scene.

Rock is too general a term to say it's dead.
60's style rock died though, on that faithful day; 31st of Decemeber 1969

I have never resorted to name-calling over the internet. Never. This, I swear.
That being said, you are an idiot.

What a sweeping generalisation this thread is. First of all, you're thirteen. Second, all of the songs that you picked are very much mainstream. Both of these facts suggest that you have only heard a small selection of modern music.
"By the year 2009, it's Pop, no more rock"? Are you kidding me? Rock became synonymous with pop the moment that Elvis Presley was signed to RCA records.
What's "rock" to you? Buddy Holly? The Beatles? Led Zeppelin? The Sex Pistols? The Cure? Metallica? Nirvana? Radiohead? Deftones? Thursday? A Place To Bury Strangers?

Yes, it does look like that...WHEN YOU ONLY LISTEN TO POP SINGLES ON THE RADIO.
This thread is so ridiculously narrow-sighted that it comes pretty close to literally making me sick.
Ugh.

You just shown songs that were popular those years. Who cares if rock isn't popular anymore? There are still many good rock bands out there today.

Come gather 'round people
Wherever you roam
And admit that the waters
Around you have grown
And accept it that soon
You'll be drenched to the bone.
If your time to you
Is worth savin'
Then you better start swimmin'
Or you'll sink like a stone
For the times they are a-changin'.

Come writers and critics
Who prophesize with your pen
And keep your eyes wide
The chance won't come again
And don't speak too soon
For the wheel's still in spin
And there's no tellin' who
That it's namin'.
For the loser now
Will be later to win
For the times they are a-changin'.

Come senators, congressmen
Please heed the call
Don't stand in the doorway
Don't block up the hall
For he that gets hurt
Will be he who has stalled
There's a battle outside
And it is ragin'.
It'll soon shake your windows
And rattle your walls
For the times they are a-changin'.

Come mothers and fathers
Throughout the land
And don't criticize
What you can't understand
Your sons and your daughters
Are beyond your command
Your old road is
Rapidly agin'.
Please get out of the new one
If you can't lend your hand
For the times they are a-changin'.

The line it is drawn
The curse it is cast
The slow one now
Will later be fast
As the present now
Will later be past
The order is
Rapidly fadin'.
And the first one now
Will later be last
For the times they are a-changin'.

Jack Off Jill has the right idea, you don't even have to look that hard for good rock muic, most of the time it's staring you in the face, you just like looking at what's popular for 12 year olds and declare that's what everybody considers rock.

Even mainstream music is very listenable, you just happened to pick some shitty songs.

Watch, I can make a timeline of mainstream just as well as you, but it doesn't suck:

2000: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zHfzrqLIniE

2002: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5m83BQ7LQ8A

2004: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iV0AOaJunZM

2007: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SBjQ9tuuTJQ

2009: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YFHN0gcMUf0

There's always been bad songs around, people just don't talk about them anymore. You can't just pick those out and go 'lol, rock music sucks'. And besides, that's just your opinion. You know why artists use the autotune? Because a lot of people like it, and who are you to tell them not to?

I can tell you there is more to rock than what you are showing. That is just mainstream. And dude, Metal is PART of rock. It just a massive sub genre. Could be classified separately, but yeah.

I can also say with 100% confidence I don't listen to any of those bands, nor have ever, with the except of LP, whom I don't listen to for the most part. SO yeah....
#30
Mainstream rock is dead. I agree.

Is rock itself dead? I don't think so. Listen to Mars Volta, Silversun Pickups (although they are pretty mainstream, they're pretty ****ing good). And listen to music from other countries, for christ sakes. America isn't the only place music comes from. Some of my two favorite bands are Rammstein (German) and Dir en Grey (Japanese). And don't gimme none of that "Oh I can't understand them, i can't listen to it shit", I don't understand it either. It's about the music.

I'll give you that Linkin Park was cool in the 00's. I loved it when I was your age. But times have changed man. You have to seek out good music because there's so much shit out there. You can't rely on radio to give you what you want.

considering many of the half decent rock bands that are around right now all started 80s 90s
rock is not dead, its just not popular
fact is you need to look a bit and all this bad music will end up in truly great artists that do not wnat to be popular
think of it as evolution
#32
There has always been bad music in every decade. History just forgot the bad bands of the 50s, 60s, and 70s, just like it will forget the bad bands of the '00s and '10s. Get over it.

He doesn't even take subjectivity into consideration. I wasn't even sure what the purpose of the thread was at first; he simply posts some links and assumes that we will all feel exactly the same way about it as he does.
I actually really enjoy Billy Talent's early work, and while I'm not too keen on Jimmy Eat World's new material, there was a time when they were a tremendous band.

Well, his age is relevant. He seems to believe that he's already been exposed to all of the modern rock music there is, which is very unrealistic for a much older person, let alone a 13-year-old.
#36
I like how a new thread comes about every few months or so saying that rock is dead based on a broad generalization of a few bands. It's not as if every single rock band adheres to the same exact formula, those are just the more mainstream ones. If you search more than 3 seconds, you'll find something. Now go write a blog or something about how you don't like nu-metal while I listen to TCV, which clearly proves rock isn't dead.

I know it's relevant. I'm just wondering why he keeps putting himself through this when most of us are just going to bring up how old he is. Hell, I didn't even know how old he was and guessed pretty accurately.
