Basically I want to get a tone like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GDvdO_9ASHg . I have a really good clean punk tone but I really want to throw some overdrive in there. I cannot by any means afford a Sansamp but I've been looking at the boss overdrive pedals and I'm wondering if anyone that has one could get anything like this. Thanks!

The Sans Amp is pretty much a modeled Ampeg SVT in a box, sadly it would pretty much be perfect for what you wanted.

The SansAmp - either the pedal or the rackmount unit - would be much better for getting that tone, as well as a lot of other good useable ones.

Tech 21 SVT (cant remember the actual name) will serve you well it will give you the punk tone its rather awesome i tried one out and had suden gas but i just bought a BC rich and i need beer money for over Christmas so i have to GAS

or you could look at the SansAmp Bass driver (im sure thats what its called) its a bit more complex and would most likely give you more tonal options.

I do belive he means the SansAmp VT Bass. Apparently an absolute monster of a pedal, am considering ordering one for christmas myself actually. Hmmmm....

That is simultaneously brilliant and obscene. I honestly don't know if I despise, or admire you.

the VT is cheaper and is basically a Sansamp. try for one of those.

well it'd add drive. it would be very harsh and would be more distorted than you want. the VT creates the same sound as an Ampeg, roughly. an OBD-3 is basically a fuzz with a blend knob. it sounds kinda like this- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jmE5CfALWTg&feature=related

it's not a bad sound, but I can think of a much better fuzz in that price range.

^it has a mid knob, and is therefore more similar to the VT.

Right on! Rackmount bass driver it is. Thanks guys! And if you know anyone who would buy my kidney in order to fund this purchase, give me a shout.

EDIT: one more question, does this have to be used as a preamp? Because I really like the tone from my mesa. I was hoping to sort of blend the tones from my amp and the sansamp.
