Just make a statement about art. Something it should accomplish, a factor that must be there for art to be "art." ect... anything
Ill go first...
edit: this isn;t just art like a painting or w/e, art is painting, music, dance, that all counts

Art should be able to cause emotion

Art is expression. And that expression requires 100% full freedom.

Also, art is the process or product of deliberately arranging elements in a way that appeals to the senses or emotions .

Art is a way to express complex emotions in a way casual speech cannot.

Art is whatever the crap I want it to be at the time, and all the above and below statements hereafter are completely wrong and completely right. Dont be a douche and try to classify something that would be ruined by classification.
...In my opinion.

Art should be intended as art, and have no use other than appreciating it as a piece of art.

EDIT: Technology makes life easier, while art makes life worthwhile. I said that in some other thread and felt like I was smart.

So figure studies and portraits aren't really art? Not too many complex emotions there.

Sounds like fart.

They just spent a bundle re-signposting our school, putting new block letters up and all that. Like, C Block for communications, H block where the kitchens are, etc, etc. Guess what block letter 'Art' is?

On topic, I'm not entirely sure what you're asking, but art is something that calls to you. It draws you in, even if you don't want to look at it (I'm looking at Heironymous Bosch right now.. ).

As a wannabe artist, I'd have to say you'd be surprised .

I draw portraits. They don't cause emotion; although the old, good ones do give me feelings of nostalgia and awe, for the technique and artist.

Graphic design, typically, doesn't cause emotion either.

Art is too broad an idea to define.

We can forgive a man for making a useful thing as long as he does not admire it. The only excuse for making a useless thing is that one admires it intensely.

All art is quite useless.

Without art emotion would be worthless.

But without emotion, art is worthless... Hmm...

Art is anything that inspires feelings.

I'm afraid I disagree with half the responses in this thread. Art is like a butterfly in the sense that pinning it down with labels and putting it into boxes only kills it.

Art is art.

Art is not what the hand makes, but what the mind creates.
