I've started my second stratocaster mod. I think it was some kind of cheap knockoff guitar, not an actual Fender.

Progress

This is how it started life...

And it soon became...

Right now it looks like...

I'm looking for some pickups that give some really nice, warm cleans. Any suggestions?
What does everyone think of the mod so far?

Damn it, I can't see the images either but I thought it was just me. I'll have plain, old links for now if that's cool.

Wait, you remembered my old one?

You can also see pics in the blog that I linked too.

EDIT: Fixed.

Eh, I didn't want them to be pointy or 'metal' or anything. I have my other guitars for that. I sort of wanted a mellow guitar for my clean stuff but I didn't want another strat

I was debating with myself wether to change the lower horn a bit but I quite like it as it is.

Its unique, and it looks quite cool.

Any ideas on the refinish?

Thanks. I've been playing around with the design for a few weeks.

I was thinking glossy aqua/blue sort of colour. I kinda had a beach/ocean sort of theme in mind with the guitar.

EDIT: Lots of Australians in here.

What's with the Caoimhe? I know a girl called that, and it's decidedly odd.

But I quite like the horns.

I like the name. Not really a story behind it or anything but the origional idea was to create a nice looking, nice sounding guitar capable of creating some great clean tones. When I told my girlfriend this she suggested the name and it stuck.

And thanks.

And as a bonus it sounds rougly musical if you pronounce it a bit wrong! (but not as wrong as some poeple.)

I've heard it pronounced a lot of ways, the correct way being kee-va.

I think the funniest was Chow-mein

Hmmm, i'm not sure on the proper pronounciation then. I like Keeva so I'm sticking with that that pronounciation. I might have to google that incase there's some confusion later.

What does everyone think of the aqua blue colour idea?

FTR its usually pronounced Kweever but regional variations in Ireland would allow Keever, Keefer or even Kweher

That sounds like a pretty good idea, I'm drawing a few ideas for pickguards now.

I didn't really like the blue so I painted it a 'Fresh Green'. As gay as that sounds, it definitly suits the guitar much better.

That guitar, plus the Fender Jazz Master guitar was the origioanl inspiration for this design.

oHHH! glitter!

It's not glitter, just some freaky glare.

After a second look, it really does look glittery. Strange.

Can't do anything about the routing unfortunatly, this is just a mod, not a build.

Anyway, mockup assembly time.

you're making a new pickguard right? or are you sticking with the modified strat?

Thinking about maybe some kind of mix of the strat and the jazz master pickguards.

Drawing a few ideas at the moment.

Haha, thanks.

Well, it's chirstmas time so I have lots of other stuff to do. I'll probably put it on halt until the 27th. I'll still work on the pickguard design a bit and I still gotta make a logo for the headstock.
#39
Majority of the work is done, I played it for about an hour and it's great. A nice, little christmas present for myself.

Other than the headstock logo (I have an idea about what I want, just gotta get a stencil made.) and the pickguard, this thing is pretty much done. Everythings wired up and working. At first I was a bit iffy on the green. I liked it more than the blue, but I was on the fence about it until today, when I got it finished to the point of being able to play it.

It plays surpisingly well considering that it was a beat up, second hand guitar I bought for a few hundred dollars. It was probably only so cheap because it was missing all it's strings, had more holes than dimebag and the paint was absoulutly ****ed but beyond that, it must have been a pretty good guitar at one point.

A coat a paint, some light, nickel wound D'addarios and some wood filler fixed all that up and now I love it. I got an awesome guitar
#40
a few hundred! you could get a brand new Fender Strat for that. I got a cheap strat to mess with for $25. Also, it looks like you painted the neck pocket again .
