so i got a new tube amp (my first tube amp...don't know much about it) but i do i know that the 12ax7 tubes are preamps and the 6v6 are power tubes, but i don't know what the 5y3 and 6sh7 do?

There are about eleventy-million different tube amps on the market. It would help a ton if you said which one you have.


5Y3 is a rectifier. Part of the power supply (this is not the same as the power amp.)
Its function is to change the AC power into DC.

6sh7 is classically a radio tube but can be used as a preamp tube. I'll bet it is used for the tremolo circuit or reverb circuit if it has one. if not, it is is most likely part of the main preamp.

the amp is an old harmony 306a and yes it has a tremolo system

ok so its not working when i turn it on the light wont turn on....any ideas whats broken?
