Well... finished Stage 1 of my 6505+ cosmetic modifications:

Just kidding... you didn't really think I'd be that boring did you?

I stripped off the vinyl crap that was on the faceplate, and put this on it:

Then I stuck it on the amp and was done! Hooray!

Wait, wtf is this shit?

Since it kinda went on like paint... I sanded it down to the grain more:

Mmmm... purple (I put a clear gloss over it, but I forgot to take a picture!)

Not sure if I like it with the metal grille on it or not... what do you guys think?

Looks better without the board IMO (tubes + trannies = sexy), but if you're happy then that's all that matters.

Eh, you see that everywhere. I personally think it looks boring, if I was going to do that, I'd make some cool plexiglass thing to put on it, which I did consider. The faceplate will still be modded even more soon, I just don't have the tools to do it at my house, so I'll be taking it to my dad's friend's house to use his shop

I'm not sure I like the grille on it though, it kinda wastes the flame I put on there cause you can't even see it!

Yeah, the flame looks beautiful in purple. I think I'll pull the grille off tomorrow and see how it looks, I just don't want to do it today cause I used up all the staples and then I'll just feel like I wasted them

I modded the rust off my RG550 bolt-on plate today....

It'll be interesting to see how this turns out - 5150 mods are usually great. I can't say the photos are very complimentary of the purple wood though

I'm still going to do that, I'm just debating how I'm going to do it. I don't want to have to plug in an extra power adapter every time I want the LEDs to glow. I'd rather have them wired straight into the amp's power, but people get all crazy when I mention this because it'll "add hum"

Do you have a power conditioner? Get this guy http://accessories.musiciansfriend.com/product/Furman-M8X-Power-Conditioner?sku=181045 for $60 and just have both the amp and the power supply for that plugged in and use it as a master power switch. Maybe?

As for how, are you going to get rid of the wood panel so you can see them, or are you going to drill holes in it (which would be a shame)?

I think I might saw out some small little designs in it and fill them with plexi glass, but I'm undecided at the moment on that. There's enough gap on all sides of the board to see an LED through it, but it would only be on the sides, so that's not as cool

Just drill a small hole in the chassis next to the tube or where ever, and connect it to the tube heaters (pin 4/5 and 9 for 12AX7 tubes, 2 and 7 for powertubes)

your PT shouldn't struggle to meet the current hunger of small LEDs
