no, those of us who aren't emo have to deal with those who are emo.

by emo, i mean the trend, not actually emo.

EDIT: Nevermind, free porn cancels that out.

its probably easier in comparison to the kids of the past, but then again they probably thought they had it pretty sweet at the time in comparison to generations before them. in 20 years time theres going to be somebody saying the exact same thing about kids of then in comparison to now

It's alright.

I don't care how pretentious it sounds,
fuck no.

quality of life is diminishing with the ever-increasing presence of technology in our social and leisure activities. i don't care how much people argue it, the essence of life is not what we are "progressing" towards.

No one like a conservative? Grow up. And no, I'm not quoting him anyway, it's a debate title I've been given and I was just looking for some good points besides the obvious ones.

Considering the gen X-ers and those that follow are the first generations in the US that have fewer advantages and opportunities than their parents I'd say things are worse here. They'll get more education (and usually go into moronic amounts of debt for it) for crappier jobs and live their adult lives with the fewest luxuries since before the baby boomers.

No doubt there is plenty of room for professional and financial success out there, but I know my generation at least, had the traditional formulas for achieving that success shoved down their throat when those don't work any more. You can't just work hard and be an excellent student in your field and expect to get hired to a position that has any semblance of upward mobility. That used to be the case for young professionals, it no longer is, and it sucks that so many of us have been trying to achieve professional success that way when it just doesn't work.

Speaking as a person from an older generation to most here, there are both pros and cons in the differences between when I was growing up and you guys growing up
When I was a kid, there was no internet, games consuls invariably comprised of just two rectangles that represented bats and a square that represented a ball on a TV screen, if you wanted anything more complex, you could always go down the local arcade and play on Space Invaders for 10p a time. It was almost unheard of for a teenager to have a decent guitar and amp of any sort unless their parents were loaded and electro pop (spits) ruled the charts.

But, we actualy spent our days going places with our friends instead of hanging around at home on the internet cyberneticaly interacting with our friends, or a games consul.
There was less crime and violence, it was still there, but it just didn't seem as bad as today but what was really good was that I got to see some damn fine gigs, like Motorhead on their Ace of Spades tour, or Iron Maiden on their Killers tour, or AC/DC when Bon Scott was still alive, and it was relatively cheap too because they weren't the huge acts they are now.

We had real snow in winter too, not this mushy, 'here one day, gone the next' crap that they call snow nowadays. I could get completely wasted with just £5, cannabis was cleaner in those days, not the horrible chemical stuff they sell today, I walked straight out of school and straight into a job, because jobs were pretty plentifull then.
We didn't have any of this 'claim form culture' that they do now either. D'you know, my daughter's school have actualy stopped gritting their paths in winter because apparenty, if someone slips on any remaining ice, by gritting the paths the school is accepting responsibility for the ice and can be sued by people injured by any they've missed.

Well we have more guitars now, i cannot imagine walking in to a store and there being only Fenders, and we have a lot more diversity in music, plus better technology, healthcare, automobiles and i think most importantly more knowledge

Then again we have things like Increased crime, constant rape, stabbings, killings, robberies, teenage pregnancy,Global warming, gangs, rap

you know, all the stupid stuff that should not be happening

every silver cloud has it's lining i suppose

its shit now because we're all spoonfed stuff to make everything easy and instant, but easy doesnt mean better. i could download all the free porn or music or internet crap i want but there's no way I'll be able to go cruising the loop or get any sort of freedom. im 15 and i've already got a drawer full of business letters from the government and work asking what i had for breakfast and when i took a sh*t.

its just the same as always and everything balances out i guess.

I think you're a bit wrong there. First of all, music is definitely not dying. there have been tons of great albums over the past decade and i personally haven't seen any signs of the music industry slowing down. Secondly, thats just a stereotype that everyone is trained to be a 'clone', the job industry has basically been the same for years, i sure as hell haven't been told to follow everyone else growing up as a kid.

Like someone said earlier, both times had their pros and cons; it really comes down to what you look for in particular.
