What kind of music do you play? What guitar(s) do you have?

Buy a new amp first

Jackson DKA7
Gibson Explorer
MESA/Boogie Express 5:25

BOSS TU-2

Epiphone SG Prophesy EX Electric Guitar

More versatile, more hard rock. If you were playing blues/classic rock/funk I would go with the Highway One.

He said he plays rock...

And he doesn't necessarily need a new amp if he's a begginner (possibly).

Seriously get a new amp. what guitar do you have right now? If you badly need a new guitar get an agile al-2000 and use the other 450 on an amp.

You can make an SG sound like a Strat. You can't make a Strat sound like an SG. That's all I'm sayin'.

None of the above and get a new amp first. MG's are...well...bad. Personally I'm not a fan of either Gibson/Epiphone or Fender. Sure, they have some good stuff but you pay a big premium for the name. Ask anyone who doesn't play guitar or who isn't in a band if they can name any guitar brands and 9/10 will say either Gibson or Fender and not be able to name any others. Its the cache. If you have the money to blow on a 1500 Fender then maybe yeah, thats some good stuff. But a 500$ Fender/Epiphone is a far worse value than a 500$ guitar from a less recognized brand name. Maybe Musicman or Schecter? Not really a huge Ibanez fan but you could check those out as well

Edit: Ibanez RG series might have some stuff you are looking for
