Who can write the greatest/most memorable riffs. I think Tony Iommi is the best. He isn't my favorite guitarist, but he can write awesome riffs.

EDIT: I almost forgot Dave Mustaine.

Iommi, Page, Malcolm Young, Tom Morello, maybe also Dimebag.

You're gonna be all like "omfg t3h Malcum sux lol he only play liek 5 chordz"
He made 14 albums with 5 chords, which featured a load of songs that everyone knows. That is awesome, and also quite efficient.

Sorry to break it to you TS, but Tony Iommi is actually a woman.

Tony Iommi or James Hetfield. The guys just churn out classic riff after classic riff. Not that I'm a huge fan of either Black Sabbath or Metallica, but the skill and importance of those two cannot be underestimated.

Criss Oliva.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V0Unm7dru9Y The singer is pretty lulz-worthy in this one. But the guitar work is crazy.

Criss is awesome! I've only heard the stuff on Hall of the Mountain King and the riffs were awesome.

Savatage is the only band that I truly listen to every single song from. Criss was a genius to say the least.

Frank Zappa wrote awesome riffs. Muffin Man anyone? Alex Lifeson wrote some excellent ones. Jimmy Page, Jimi Hendrix. Keith Richards. Malcolm Young. Don't forget Ritchie Blackmore, timeless riffs.

You don't know what you are missing. You need to listen to the entire Sirens album from start to finish. Then follow it up by listening to the entire Gutter Ballet album. 10 dollars say you will have a new god to worship.

The Boys from Venom ( Original Line up, **** yeah \,,/ \,,/ )

At least use their names, it's Dave Murray and Adrian Smith. And their was only one guitarist for Venom in their original line-up, Mantas. It doesn't make you seem cooler by name-dropping either. :L

"hero"? It's obvious you don't know what you're talking about tho. I didn't say they didn't, merely that they play the riffs, seeing as how they're the guitarists in the band. (Classic lineup)
I forgive you.

Well, he did write a lot of the songs, where "songs" = lyrics, melodies and riffs. He wrote bass riffs, and the guitar parts were adapted from those.

Then Steve Harris is the king of riffs. Also, Robin Trower wrote alot of tasty riffs. NOM NOM NOM.
