So I just got a 42" Hitachi LCD TV and I freaking love it.

The only problem is that it gives off a continuous high pitched noise when it's on and this hurts my dog's ears.

He's currently hiding downstairs.

Is there any way to fix/muffle this noise? Or do you think my dog will ever get used to it?

I don't want to lose my amazing new image quality (I didn't have HDTV prior to this) but I don't want to torture my dog.
Blindfolds aside I'd probably still close my eyes

And try to feel a trembling fetal life inside
that shotgun barrel that's about to make me bleed

Why don't you paws the tv for a little bit to give him a break, and then slowly work him into it.

I tried, he's totally scared of the living room now even when it's not plugged in.

really? I've never seen (heard) an LCD telly making high pitched noises, our old CRT on the other hand.. I could hear it from the other end of the house it was that loud, and I was the only one in the family who could hear it at all.. drove me demented.
You're using UG classic, congratulations.

It's not an audio problem, it makes the pitch on mute.

Can you actually hear the pitch? And if it's making noise on mute it's probably defective.

I can hear the sound when I'm close enough to it.

What pisses me off is that my mom's older tv makes a noise that bothers me to the point where I can't be in her room, but my dog is fine with that.

From what I've researched so far, it might be a defective power supply problem, but that's on a specific Samsung TV and I don't see why that would make a noise.

My CRT monitor does it, and most of the TVs in my house do it. I'd suggest calling up customer support and seeing if they can get you a replacement... I'm not sure if its just the TV or if there is something wrong with it, ask someone else lol

I found a website where they answer your Hitachi questions, but it wants me to pay ****ing 13 bucks for an answer.

It's more than likely defective, take it back. They wouldn't put it out if it irritated pets, and if it did they would've recalled it by now.

Every time you turn on your TV, give your dog a treat. Eventually, he will associate the sound with food, and he won't run away =] Keep it up every time though, until he doesn't move when you turn the tv on.

Sounds like a defect in the manufacturing process. Call the manufacturer.

I think he's getting used to it, and if he doesn't warm up to it in a couple days, I'll try to replace it sine it's defective.

If you apply Icy-Hot to the dogs ears before you turn on your TV, it'll make his ears "invulnerable" to this noise, its only temporary thou.

just replace it... wouldn't you rather have a tv that doesn't have an annoying sound?

and just because your dog stops responding to it doesn't mean it's not dreading every second of it. If you know your dog hates it and you continue, it's just animal abuse.

replace=free anyways.
