i have pretty much narrowed down my search to the "Crate FlexWave Series" and a "B-52". I am looking for something that sounds great (not muddy). I want a nice clean sound, but also a punching metal sound. Ive heard that the crates can sound worse as they get louder, but i was just wondering which one is better.

try and swing this

or this

These will be louder and cut through the mix of drummer and other guitarist better.

stay away from SS halfstacks. You will find you hate it in 3 months and it will be the hardest thing to sell/ship.

Both of those amps are pretty crappy. What is your budget, kinds of music you play, and do you gig/play in a band.

the b-52 is a tube halfstack.

reliability has been an issue with the b-52 from what i read around here.. but you have to keep in mind, people don't usually print the happy stories of how their amp doesn't break down.

stay away from the flexwave halfstack. its an over inflated practice amp, like a spider stack or mg stack. the 15 practice versions are good enough for practicing, but the halfstack is just a device for separating unsuspecting kids from their money. definitely try to buy used in the want ads.

given the kind of sounds you want, the peavey XXX is a good call or check out the bugera lineup
