Around my city, most notably at my high school, there are tons of kids addicted to caffeine, without even thinking about it. Every day kids have huge Monsters or Rockstars in first or second period. A lot of adults are in caffeine cycles as well, with coffee or energy drinks. A friend of mine gets bad headaches if he doesn't have a certain amount of caffeine every day.

So what I wanted to know, is how many of you are addicted to caffeine or know people that are?

I like the taste of coffee.

Kids are too unhealthy these days.

I am, but not too badly. Besides, tests have been done on people that drink coffee (not energy drinks!!) regularly, and they perform better on mental and physical tests than non-coffee drinkers.

I used to require 3 cans of diet coke every morning. After I stopped that, I lost 30 lbs. True story.

it's very socially accepted, therefore, it doesn't quite matter that much, right?

my girlfriends brother HAS to have two of the big monsters (bfc? i think they're called that) a day, one when he wakes up and one like halfway through the day. if he doesn't have em he gets extremely irritable and really bad headaches. those things are like ****ing 4 dollars each and her family doesnt have the extra money to spend right now to be honest, and he's been doing this for like 2 years

There's also no sugar in caffeine.

I mainly posted this thread because I find it interesting, like illuminatiano said, that caffeine is so acceptable in our society while many illicit drugs aren't, like marijuana for example.
#19
i am very addicted to caffeine, but i've been weening off of it lately.

Caffeine doesn't cause serious health problems in most people. Other drugs are more damaging.

During the week when I go to work I usually have a coffee before and one or two at work. Since I'm on vacation right now I haven't had one in a while...I'd like one!!!!

I've noticed that most of the kids that drink Relentless or Rockstar aren't those that will use the energy in sports, but are the type to sit around playing WOW, why is this?

I drank 2 whole pots of coffee in one night once.

What does that tell you?

EDIT: Oh, I wouldn't recommend it either.

most likely because it doesn't have the "expanding of the mind" effect that most illicit drugs have, and doesn't make you technically "high" therefore it is accepted in society, also it is so widely used that any movement against it would be so minute that it would be crushed by the majority of the country.

That's true, but it can very subtly affect people in serious ways. Caffeine disrupts normal sleep cycles, like you don't go into R.E.M., which is when you sleep deepest. Not getting the deepest part of your sleep at night can cause anxiety and tendency to crash during the day.

I used to have real trouble with this when I was into drinking several sodas at night.

I've been drinking coffee since I was 4. I'm now 21. If I don't have 2 or 3 cups in the morning I definitely get a headache later on in the day. I'd easily say I'm addicted.

That said any kind of energy drink does nothing for me.

Yeah, definitely. I still have a really bad soda addiction, and I pretty much suffer from most of that.

But I'm gonna quit soda entirely once track season starts in the spring. That's probably gonna be the hardest thing I'll ever do in my life

first of all cafeine is bad... it may help you but it is still bad for your health when you consume it on regular basis.

now why is it accepted by society? Well imagine if cafeine was bad what would happen to huge commercial monsters like Starbucks, Second Cup etc...

Yes it is corruption, Starbucks pays everyone to shut up...it's all about money these days...

True, but if someone gets in a car accident because of this, the accident would probably be attributed to inattentive driving, not driving under influence, which could be attributed to other drugs.

I used be pretty addicted.

Then I went on a week long crash diet of alcohol, acid and weed.
Been great ever since.

I'm not comparing it to hallucinogenics or anything man. I'm just saying it is underestimated as a drug, and far too many people are hooked on it.

^Two up.
It's not, but it's not physically addictive, and it helped me to ignore the horrible Caffeine withdrawl.
