I bought a Peavey Vypyr 30 about 2 weeks ago, and it's an alright amp, but not the 'best best'

I'm returning it for something else, and my budget right now is $350~370.

My amp choice elimination before was between the Vypyr 30, Spider IV 30, or the VOX VT30.

My type of music is just Modern rock.
Mostly into Joe Satriani though.

I like those crisp sounding tones, and punchy palm mutes.

You should get the VT30 over the spider i tried them both out when buying and i choose the VT30 because it has better tone more and better effects and there is alot more choice and versitilty with the amp.

For your budget there's really not a lot of options. Maybe a used tube amp?

EDIT: assuming you're in the US, give the B-52 AT112 a try.

Hmm, if I get a tube amp, it has to be under 30 watts.
Because if going to volume 1 ~ 1 and a half will upset my neighbours with a 30 Watt Solid State..Then it'll drive them nuts with a Tube :/

I live in a townhouse, so each house is stuck to each other, wall to wall.

But which tube amps are good?

Just because tube amps sound BEST when cranked doesn't mean it sounds awful at low volumes. In fact, i think it sounds pretty much the same when cranked, just louder. SS amps, on the other hand, sound crap when you crank them.

If you're restricted to buying new products, I can't think of many other tube amps other than the B-52 AT112. Of course, there are the small ones e.g. Blackheart Killer Ant, Vox AC4TV which are within your budget, but they won't achieve much more than classic rock tones on their own. If you go used, you open a whole new world of amps .

Better you keep the Vypyr, the VT and Spider are both worse.

Save more and maybe get a Vypyr tube. They sound pretty different from the SS versions.

Or look for a used Peavey Classic 30, and get an OD.
