I've got a few friends who are extraordinarily talented musicians that want to do something for an upcoming talent show. Last time, we played the Racer X song Viking Kong, and we even got our band director to play drums for us. (he is such a beast )

One of the guitarists that I played with wants to do it again, and he said he wants something challenging but still awesome. We have two crazy muthas playing guitar, a drummer with 20+ years of drumming under his belt and me, a great bassist, If I do say so myself.

The only problem is that we don't know what to play. Ideally, we would something like Viking Kong. If you've never heard that song, it has guitar harmonizations and trade-off solos. Plus Paul Gilbert plays on that track, which merits a degree of certain challenge.

tl;dr: We need a challenging, yet fun song to play for a show and we have excellent musicians playing.

Any ideas?

For our talent show, my band is combining a bunch of parts from BTBAM songs (mostly the melodic parts) into some kind of beast. That's an idea

Wow, that sounds like some sweet shit right there.

Try some of The Human Abstract's songs. Mea Culpa, Crossing the Rubicon, and Vela, Together We Await the Storm are all pretty challenging to play on guitar.

IMO classical adaptations don't sound too great on guitar.

although i dont like necrophagist, any of their songs instrumental would be crazy and its very hard to play, selkies, one could do the acoustic solo and the other does the sweep at the end eh whatever floats your boat

and the human abstract!

Scarified or Technical Difficulties by Racer X would be really great.

Molto Arpeggiosa by Yngwie Malmsteen is also a tad on the difficult side...

La Villa Strangiato by Rush

For my Talent Show I put together a comedic christian power metal band. We got the most points by far, but we only came third. Damn corrupt teachers (they were on the judges panel) wouldn't give us the satisfaction.

We were beaten by a truly better act though, singing twins. So hot. I can't recall who came second, but I was pretty peeved hat we didn't at least beat them.

We were robbed!

I would say Animals as Leaders, if you have seven string guitars. Melodic, progressive, extremely technical, and enjoyable to any ear.
